I was watching a YouTube video of a Tacoma vs Colorado test and in the Off Road portion of the test the Colorado popped the side and curtain bags and the Tacoma did not, don't know if that makes you feel better or not.

I really don't know why they couldn't just leave the switch? I wonder the knee one is only gonna go off in a front deployment or can it also go off with the curtains?

I know I'll be butthurt the day they light off. But I'm not super worried about it meantime. I haven't found a good way to disable them while I'm under warranty.

no I just feel its the marketing /truth about what a tacoma was and now is .The Tacoma was a real work/play get your moneys worth vehicle . Now I feel its more a hipster ride and really not intended for off road like past tacomas that all .

They took the button away because human dumbassery I suppose. There were situations where A) People SHOULD have pushed the button to off road and didn't, resulting in the airbags going off and B) People who pushed the button to off road, forgot to turn the airbags back on and drive on the road and got in a wreck where they needed that airbag.

As far as I can figure, now, before the side airbags will fire several conditions have to be met. Vehicle speed, angle and angular velocity. So a slow drive on a steep angle or even a slow tip won't set them off. A higher velocity and a high angular velocity will blow the squib.

Sorry, I probably watched it about a year ago, the talk of popping the side bags made me remember it.

...you CAN'T just unplug them!...when the vehicle is turned on, the diagnostics checks to make sure EVERY airbag is functioning....if not..it throws error codes...

...The reason I know this is I just had this conversation with Toyota Corp, cos I wanted to remove the front passenger seat...and that cannot be done, due to the curtain airbags being in the side of the seatback.

...If the diagnostics finds ANY of the airbags disconnected, not only will it throw error codes, but it can disable the Entire airbag system!

...Not to mention, it also instantly voids your warranty, should you have ANY problems with your truck, even if it is NOT airbag related!...:annoyed:
