The tabs are still in the A Pillar from the 2nd Gen, the top hole is still threaded but you would have to use a Nut-Sert in the lower hole.

I have no idea, you could always take the bolt out of the top to match it up.

Does it affect the airbag at all?

    Working on it.
I am not an automotive engineer but I would have to imagine installing an object over an airbag with threaded fasteners would impact the airbags performance unless the handle component was designed specifically for the application.

The 2015 came with an Airbag in the A Pillar and a Grab Handle, and it is still the same Cab and same threaded attachment tabs. I keep hoping Toyota decides to put a handle back again so I can add one to my truck.

I just put a Ram mount on my A pillar using the unthreaded bottom tab. I used 1/4" nutsert. You have to drill the hole out to 25/62" which is just barely larger than the stock hole.

I do not think this will affect the airbag at all. It is the same design as the passenger A pillar that has the handle and two bolts. The airbag blows out the side of the trim piece by the window.

Appears there is no problem with it from what I can see.

I am a Toyota Quality Control Engineer for all 2017 Tacomas. Don't use threaded fasteners. That would be dangerous going into the airbag. Use this. We use a lot of this shit.

That would be good for the single bolt we do have. Good find!

Take a look where the Airbag is mounted in the A Pillar in the pics of that Thread, you will see that it is mounted closer to the driver so it would exit the A Pillar with no problem if the Grab Handle was there.

The video a few posts up show it deploying, which looks like it would not interfere with a bolted in grab handle.

If it doesn't interfere with the airbag like the videos show, the only thing I can think of is the sight line issue, like someone said before.

Or maybe with all the new electronics there is too much wiring running through the pillar? Reaching for ideas...

Its the same cab as a 2nd Gen and it had a Grab Handle, l think its not there now because of cost cutting.
