I'm not sure. They are definetly aware of the necessary specs because Marie warned me about using the kings they sell with dakars because it would cause issues. I assume that the issues are exactly what you are experiencing.

Starting to wonder if it was a shipping mistake?

I'm not trying to put anyone on blast here, just trying to get to the bottom of what happened and what I should do. If I should even call Bilstein tomorrow morning or call Headstrong Off-road.

I like smitty's plan..... how does the other shock look? If it really was a travel problem, I'd kind of expect to see it occur on both.... especially since you haven't been offroading.

The 5160s have a longer extended length over the Nitro Charger sports (60091) designed to be used with the OME leaf packs. If these shocks are too short the OME rear shocks are also too short. Keep in mind (I'm sure you already know this though) the rear shocks in these trucks are the limiting factory for rear droop. If you are the type of guy who hits the trails hard fully drooping the rear often, its best to run limit straps regardless of the shocks. For those with longer shocks straps would also be recommended to prevent from over extending the rear.

FYI we just had another leak reported with the 5160s and this customers running a stock set-up in the rear with no lift and does ZERO off-roading.

Another thing to note, which is why we look at actual travel numbers and lift being used and not just what the lift spec's from the manufacturer are, is......

Fox calls out a 2-3" lift for their 2.0 remote reservoir rear shocks part number 985-24-117. They have a 14.70 collapsed and 23.80 extended.
They also call out a 3.5"-5" lift for their part number 985-24-118 which features a 15.20 collapsed and a 24.80 extended.
The Bilstein 5160's have a 14.22 collapsed and a 24.06 extended and Bilstein spec's these out for a 0-1" of rear lift. Which is over 1/4" longer then what Fox's spec's out for a 2-3" rear lift.

Since this can be confusing and contradictory we look at as a whole and pair the shocks accordingly.

For reference, the ARB's nitrocharger sport rear shocks part number 60091 have a 14.17 collapsed and 23.58 extended length which puts the 5160's at 1/2" more extension then the nitro's.

Again to reiterate, it isn't just the lift numbers that the mfg publishes or even the extended length of the shock it is the entire picture. Use, travel, what rear lift is being used (block, aal, leaf pack), preference etc.

Update: Talked to Matt at Headstrong Off-road. Headstrong processes the warranty with Bilstein, they ultimately will give the things up or down for the warranty. With this being said there's 2 ways to get a replacement, send the broken shocks in and wait for the approval to get a replacement or buy another shock and send in the broken one then wait for the reimbursement. Given the fact that my military service ends September 6th, I'm going to go with buy new ones from Headstrong and send in my leaking shocks then wait for the warranty process to go through. Once again, I can't appreciate this community enough in being proactive, reaching out and going out of your everyday lives to help a random person on this forum!

I've seen more reports on icon shocks leaking than 5160s let's put it that way.
