I also love my JBL system, definitely worth getting the JBL. but as others said...If you plan to upgrade your system, don't get the JBL, as its more difficult to upgrade later. But I don't think I will ever need to upgrade my system, may have to just suck up the OEM price for replacement parts when they wear out from age though

    Thanks for the link.

It still seems like the quality would be limited seeing that the head unit still has a three setting EQ. I don't want to get rid of it because I like the functionality of it too much, but it does seem like it would hold it back.

I don't think the stock head unit is bad at all, it's actually quite good. If you think about it, they're made by a top aftermarket supplier with Toyota logo & face plate. And it's not like they're gonna go way out and use lower quality components when they already get best prices on what they have in stock because they buy in bulk.
I have found that if you replace the two front tweeters those are the big bottle neck to great sound. I replaced mine with good quality tweeters with a quality built crossover and the sound difference is huge!
And that's with the stock door speakers(4) still in place!

But if that's still not enough, I'd replace the other (4) cheap stuff. And if that's still not enough I'd go with a EQ or sound control such as AudioControl LC7i and a separate amp and maybe a sub. Or maybe go with the latter and leave the door junk in place.

    Hope that helps!
    Cheers!

I believe there is a comparison thread on the the sound differences. But I would think they are similar sounding.

Odd question to an older thread, but does anyone know what "model" JBL speakers they used in the upgraded JBL system? I'm thinking about getting JBLs as drop-in replacements for my non-JBL Entune system and wanted to make sure I was upgrading to a better set than what the "stock" JBLs are.

The JBL option is a nice upgrade. I have ALWAYS upgraded my stereo systems in all my Toyota Trucks and usually say "never again!". Yet, I end up doing it anyway... but not this time!

With this JBL system, you really get a bang for your buck once you purchase their Premium and Technology package. I really went back and forth between this option or a Manual Transmission. The Multi Terrain Select and Crawl Control was enough to convince me to get an Auto Trans so that I could get the JBL, plus, you can't get a Manual Transmission in a Long Bed.

This is what you get: (From the JBL website)

2 × 65 mm mid/tweeters. Hybrid speakers reproduce middle frequencies to image the primary vocalist and high frequency sound, resulting in accurate, nuanced sound for front passengers.

2 × 152 x 229 mm woofers. Front passengers enjoy world-class sound delivered by high-output woofers integrated with front tweeters and midrange speakers. The audio experience is solidified with rich, deep bass.

2 × 80 mm mid-range rear speakers. With lightweight, high strength metal matrix diaphragm construction, this speaker is optimally designed to reproduce the frequencies of the human voice.

1 × 200 mm subwoofer. Within its own enclosure, this subwoofer delivers deep, clear, low-frequency effects and optimizes response for the entire system.

8-channel 440-Watt DSP amplifier. It delivers power to 7 loudspeakers, optimizing balance and enhancing tonal blending regardless of music or broadcast source, ensuring optimum audio in each seat.

Is the JBL a good option? Yes it is and I like it.

Is the JBL the best sound? Nope but it's better than without.

I just replaced all my speakers and the sound improvement is beyond belief. If you don't want to drop a ton of money, just replace the speakers... they are junk, trust me.

There is a post about some tweeters that Kicker makes for Subaru that are a drop in replacement that are perfect. Outside of those, use whatever 6x9s and 6.5s you want in the doors.

I have the premium non-jbl in my 2017 Tacoma and my wife has the premium jbl in her 2017 Camry. My non-jbl with Kicker tweeters($88) will run circles around hers on the same settings with the same songs(all off iTunes). I'd save the $600 and spend it elsewhere!

While it does have some merit, I would (not to be rude) say this almost had no comparison as it is for two completely different vehicles. most with the JBL in the Tacoma love it, including me. the camry will of course sound different as they may have used more speakers (reducing power to each speaker), and speaker placement.

It's good enough for me and her both to decide that the JBL system isn't worth the money. Just my opinion.

I have the JBL because it came with the other options that I was looking for - wouldn't have paid extra just for this. Have had the truck for about a month. Nice sound but not crisp and the bass is definitely muddy compared to the setup that I installed in my FJ. I'll probably swap out the speakers fairly soon.

I just installed those Subaru Tweeters in my truck this afternoon and it really improved the sound.
