Bought a used 16 with 12k. 1k later blower motor fails. Replacement is on "inter-galactic backorder". Been on replacement list now for 2 weeks (Toyota has provided a free loaner Highlander since day 1), and I'm #211 of 300. So trading it for a 2017. Anyone else having an issue with the long wait to replace?

Did you trade for a NEW '17 or a used one? did they work well with you on price?

on principal I see this all over the place (not just Toyota). My vehicle has a warranty problem, can't get part and/or repair done in a reasonable timeframe, I end up thinking "maybe I'll just trade up." Dealer and mfg get a new sale out of the deal they likely wouldn't have gotten had the repair been quick. I'm not suggesting there is some grand conspiracy theory at work here, but the facts are hard to argue in some cases. My truck broke, I decided to buy a new one I hope doesn't break and fork over several thousand extra to the same folks who couldn't fix my existing truck...

Motor or wheel? Wheel broken seems common enough to be remembered. Motor itself sounds like a new one to me.

Picking up a brand new one in quicksand. Still had to work them on price. Ended up paying invoice on new and actual cash value on trade was $500 less than I paid for it 30 days ago.

I also had the fan break on the blower motor yesterday. I was told today by service department that there are 1100 backordered across the U.S. with no ETA available. Inferior plastic or bad luck, you be the judge? I had the fan speed on 3 at start up and the plastic fan failed where it meets the motor shaft. No longer will I leave the fan on at startup if it ever gets replaced....

Did the dealership give you a loaner vehicle while they wait for a new blower?

Yes loaner, Camry cause they can't keep their loaner fleet onsite. Their only Tacoma loaner is in the hands of an owner awaiting a frame replacement on his 2nd gen.

Just to clarify, dealership and service advisor doing all they can. Handling the situation like a pro!

Saw that someone slipped a hose clamp over the cracked end of the fan. Pulled a/c filter, slipped stainless steel hose clamp over cracked fan and tightened. Works great while waiting for Toyota to supply new parts.

I got a AC refresh yesterday and now my AC sounds like a garbage disposal. Taking it ASAP. Assuming it's the same issue or similar

I had mine crack at 16000 miles pulled it out cleaned it up and used hobby grade thick super glue and some zip ties and some accelerator. I think it will out last the motor.

I know that this is an old post, but I researched just the blower wheel and found that it is not available separate from the blower motor. Even Toyota only lists the assembly. Odd.

Mine literally failed this past weekend and LHM Boulder Toyota doesn't have an ETA.... won't even get into their failed appointment/notifications on this... Same thing, I received in the mail a "trade in your Taco for 2018 model..." yesterday.

If you order a replacement blower online it will arrive in about 3 days. Replacing the whole part is literally just 3 screws and a clip - takes maybe 10 mins. Obviously the dealership should fix if under warranty, but why wait 2-3 weeks for Toyota to get the part in when you can have it in 3ish days?

Prest14, thanks for the info and might just do that myself..... have seen online sources for ~$65 for it. I wonder if there is a better OEM or performance part to replace with?

@jacowilson I did a lot of googling to see if there was a better part to replace it with but I really couldn't come up with anything - but my google-fu is weak and you might have better luck than I did. I ended up ordering part number 8710304050 from https://toyotapartsestore.com and everything lined right up. Cost $117.83 which wasn't cool, but it was the middle of summer so I really really wanted my AC back haha

Unknown lift, maybe 2" I don't know how to ID it, and would rather set it back to stock.
