(Thanks, taken care of) Need advice with High Beam and Fog light replacement

I've done bunch of research, heck, even directed people to posts with good advices... now I need some.
Since I'm getting HIDs for low beam, that is settled.

I'm trying to figure out if Morimoto 2stroke would be a good (or at least decent enough) choice to use as High Beam. GTR Gen3 seem way to expensive, even 2Stroke seem up there ($120 ON TRS). Is there a better alternative?? Please, chime in.

About fog lights. I'm leaning towards Morimoto XB. Not cheap - $170 at InSight Retrofit 2016+ Custom Headlight Upgrades by InSight Retrofits and TRS. Are they worth it? How about the light/ color temp in fog or rain? Another $15 for yellow stickers... Are there maybe yellow covers for them (kind of like for Rigid pods) that wouldn't be permanent? Am I loosing my mind?? Probably...
Any input will be appreciated.

 

I'm in the same boat. I just replaced my low beams with Morimoto HIDs and also got the Morimoto LED fog lights on a nice group buy!

I'm looking around at LEDs for my high beams.

 

I have a huge boner for baja designs. Their squadron r sport wide cornering are awesome fog lights. You can get them in yeller too.

 

Yup, decisions, decisions.... All the good choices are the high $$$ ones. Unfortunately for the most part you have to spend a lot for quality. I ordered Hyluxtek HID with 4300K cn bulbs. Still waiting for them. That gives me time to pay off some credit before next spending spree, lol.
For high beam, I was contemplating about GTR Gen3 ($170), Supernova V3 ($140), or Morimoto 2stroke ($120), As per Headlight Revolution, Gen3 and V3 focus very nicely and are strong contenders. I'm not sure about 2stroke, I wish that someone would do aome testing videos on them (maybe someone already did...).
As for fogs, at this point I'm not willing to spend $170 or more on them.... Not just yet. I might put on Lamin-X (or whatever it's called) on stock ones for now, until I make a better educated decision.

 

Just throwing it out there, since I rarely use the high beams wouldn't it be just a good to get something that's middle of the road in price be spending a lot of $$$ for something that you really use?

 

Yes it's a really good idea, and a really good point. However, not a really good idea to buy something cheap that will not work properly, just for esthetics. Some skip High Beam replacement all together, which is fine for some. I would like to see an improvement not only in color, but also in light usability.


I found a video produced by Headlight Revolution (not trying to promote them, but they tested bunch of bulbs, and it's informative and interesting) where they test H11 LEDs in Ram headlight (reflector not projector) for brightness and beam pattern.

I ended up buying the GTR Gen3 for my low beam after hours and hours of research. I have used a few different brands of LED bulb in the past, none with good experiences. The fact that they tested a ton of bulbs in our specific projector housing really sold me (in a different video). The beam pattern is perfect, no dark spots, and very bright, with great usable range. Best range by far of any LED low beam bulb I have used. Just as they advertise, it's somewhere better than the halogen but not as good as HID. I didn't want any of the problems associated with HID ballasts so that's why I have started to use LED bulbs instead.

The only thing that sucked was the heatsink on these bulbs is so big, you have to drop the bumper cover and remove the headlights to install them.

Going on 3 months now, still happy. I use them quite a bit.

I've also had a few pretty bad experiences with TRS in the past, so that basically ruled out Morimoto 2Stroke for me. I'd suggest reading honest experiences and not their filtered reviews or fake forum posts before purchasing. Make sure you leave yourself a way out if you want to take the risk.

High beams, I feel are not that necessary. I really only use them at night, rarely, and for signaling other drivers during the day. Plus I have my Switch Pros (and all my off road lights) hooked up to the high beams so basically night turns into day and the stock halogens are washed out and useless anyways

 

I'm leaning towards Supernova V3's for the sole reason that I don't want to drop the bumper to install or remove later on if there are issues. The braided heat sink of the V3's make the install 5 minutes instead of 2 hours for GTRs in the heat & humidity here.

I'm waiting to see if HLR will do a Labor Day sale before I pull the trigger. I haven't decided whether or not to get two sets, a set for high and low.

 

If you get the high beams, let me know how they turn out! I am curious myself.

I found dropping the bumper to be pretty easy...that said I am pretty experienced with it. It's really just a few clips between the fenders and the front of the truck, and then it pops right off, down far enough for you to get at the lower screws on the housing.

 

@sisai can give you feedback on both GTR in Low and Supernova in High.

Good to know about the bumper drop. It sounds intimidating initially.

 

Last night I installed my HID kit with 4300K "Round Bulb". It kicks ass. Soo much more crisper light output than stock. With 4300K they are not as pure white as let say 5500k Morimoto, but not yellowish like stock Halogen.
I decided not to overpay like crazy for LED high beam and fogs, at least not at this time... And I went with Hella H9 High Beam. They are very close in color to my new HIDs, they look very good together, and throw a LOT of light

For fog lights, I went with Yellow H11 Optilux bulbs. They work, they're yellow, not sure about performance, since it wasn't foggy yet.

Where did you get your GTR Gen 3's and did you really have to take the bumper off to get them in?

 

From Headlight Revolution, and yes, you did. You have to unbolt the headlights since the heatsink is so big. It's worth it though. Great performance and still going strong. I compared to my friend who has the Phillips Ultinon and it's about the same pattern and light output. Probably would do the Phillips if I had to do it again, just for the name brand.

 

Ah, OK. Thanks. I assume the Philips also involves bumper removal. I would prefer not to go that route but if the bulbs are that good I certainly will.
