I love my homelink. It was plug n play. I had to recalibrate the new one to get the compass to work but that was simple enough.

Then I am going to guess mine will as well, as that is what I have. But I can still test later to verify (queue Toyata QC remarks here)

I installed Gentex mirror from this eBay seller in my 2017 OR. The mirror came with easy directions. You do not have to remove the bracket from the windshield- you loosen a small set screw and the mirror slides out of the bracket. It's a 5 min install. If your garage door opener was made in the last 4 years you need A gen 4 Homelink mirror. It's all spelled out on the eBay page.

There are 2 of them. One that is ~280 do not light up. One that is ~500 that does light up. I think the $500 one is also gen5 vs gen4, but I am not positive. From everything I researched both of these are plug and play with the factory wiring:

I like that, only improvement to make would to get a little ebay 12vdc to whatever vdc the remote uses (likely 1.5 or 3v) regulator. Just a quick google search maybe this module:

Don't feel the need. The standard battery lasts years and will work even should your vehicle battery fail.

And when the opener battery does need changing, its just zipped under the edge of the dash, easy access.

Plus, when I sell vehicles with that I've installed this on, I just remove my opener and leave the button. No vehicle wiring to mess with that a 12v feed would require. And since I never trade in vehicles, I just show the new owner how they can connect their opener and keep using the button, should they wish to do so.

    I'm a simple guy. ;)

The "upgraded in 2014" Homelink in my '98 Mercedes SL500 worked great until I installed a new Genie opener in the Fall of 2015 (the old opener was a 12-year-old Genie. After that it did not and despite numerous emails and telephone calls to Homelink and Genie¹ it still does not. The easiest thing to do is just get a mini keyfob remote and use self-adhesive Velcro to stick it somewhere "hidden" in your car--that was my solution...

    ------------------------
¹ - Genie will tell you We don't know squat about Homelink, our systems evolve as security concerns change, and do not release details as to how our systems work (not those exact word, but words to that effect). Which is 100% understandable, and a "good thing".

My 2017 Audi will not operate homelink if ignition is off. Not sure about other brands.

I installed one of the Gentex homelink mirrors and it works with the ignition off. Not so on my wife's Subaru.

Since i never got around to checking the other day, I did this morning as I left for work. I can open the garage with the truck off. Fortunately for my my truck always sleeps in the garage.

Gentex makes one that the compass floats behind the mirror surface, not in a black box. In same place though.
