If the drama with my truck couldn't get any worse. I took it in this Saturday and told the general manager about the Rev-1 TSB regarding the ECM/transmission update and a howling/bearing sound from the right front end. I printed as many TSB's I could find and gave it to the service advisor. I get a call from the Toyota dealership today and the service advisor leaves a voice mail explaining their techs said the Rev-1 update was already applied from the factory, but they were "unsure of what the howling sound is at coasting speeds. " So we filed a claim with Toyota corporate and are waiting for a engineer to come out. " were at Toyota's mercy now" is the words he used. Keep in mind my truck only has 600 miles on it. My research suggests could be the " needle bearing" or differential.

I was wondering how this will generally play out? I fear that they'll keep my truck hostage until they make a determination. Meanwhile me and my friend who also owns a 2017 Sport are driving Carolla's from the dealership.

I'm thinking of perusing a Lemon law buy back if it progresses further.

Good luck. My understanding "Lemon laws" vary by state. Check what your state requires. Keep very good records.

The howling is likely the differential. Its a known issue. I would keep EXCELLENT records.

It doesn't get better, no matter what they tell you. There are no TSBs in sight. If you are unhappy with it and they dont remedy it, pursue the lemon law. I wish I had at this point. Unfortunately, I guess I gave in to the thought that "Toyota HAS to fix this eventually and they even gave me a 8yr 125K warranty!". I wouldn't hold out hope that they will fix your problems tbh.

Document when the truck went in and when if is finished and have them tack that amount of day, weeks, years to the warranty. I also explain to the dealer that you bought a truck as your livelihood and if they don't give you a truck that you will use the Corolla as your truck. 1st order of business is topic up a load of manure then a pallet of cinder blocks. If that is not to their liking ask that they rent a truck for you to use while you warranty claim is evaluated.

If you really want to lemon the truck stop posting publicly about it and definitely seek some legal advice. The first thing they'll probably tell you is to stop posting about it online :D

I thought I bought a Toyota! Ha. Can't believe this. My old SUV, BMW X-3 05 had a whining differential.. But that was at 100k, not 600. I have a lawyer in the family so It won't be that expensive or painful for me. I'm lucky I have that resource. But yes, eventually I should stop posting on here. But I'm not pulling the trigger on the legal route until I hear more information back.

I'm going to start a log and document everything.

First be thankful you have a dealership willing to try to help you. Second, track the days they have your truck. Third, give them a chance, maybe you will end up with a nice ride. Fourth, contact Coorporate and discuss your concern for long term issues, you know so they offer up the long warranty.

Tough luck man, but let the dealership work through it. Don't be so quick to take legal action, a ton of headaches going that route. There are some real horror stories on TW, so I would read all of those to get a better perspective on your situation.

If you are making payments monthly, make sure they pro-rate or cut you a deal on it. Demand a loaner truck. If you're not making payments towards it and you get a free loaner truck, then wait it out as long as it takes.

They do, and they are sufficiently complex (i.e. not especially consumer friendly) that to pursue it seriously you need a lawyer-of which as luck would have there are numerous specializing in "lemon law" cases. Just google "lemon law [your state]" and you'll find plenty...

The dealer has had your truck for 3 days... and you are talking about lemon law? There is some buyers remorse here I think, and not from mechanical issues.

I know this isn't everyone’s opinion but I would gladly let them park my truck so I can beat up a loaner for a couple weeks, even if it is a corolla.

I guess it is a case of " buyers remorse" when your truck had problems from the factory to begin with. Differentials shouldn't be whining or howling at 600 miles on the odometer. Not exactly comforting either when the service adviser says " its in Toyota hands now". That means their techs dont want to touch it..

The entitlement of people, one issue (which you don't even know what is yet) and you are screaming lemon law, come on... Right front, could it have been something you did (err um "co-worker) with when you had it in 4wd on dry pavement? Probably should have stayed with BMW. Let them fix it, that is what a warranty is for. Crap happens, anything can have an issue, the world doesn't revolve around you, did I miss anything?

Not exactly, what that means is that the dealership is getting Toyota involved and you will get attention. They could have said its normal if they didn't want to mess with it.
This means the dealership techs are going to take the advice/steps from their tech support, which is a good thing.

They need to look at it a few different times with unsuccessful attempts to try and repair the issue or have the vehicle in their possession for an extended period of time.

Howling from the front end sounds like it needs plugs in the A arms to me, not diff. Seems like that would have been an easy fix though.

You can take your truck home until they do the test case. Shouldn't take more than a day
