I have a 2011 4 dr tacoma (62000) and on the frame next to the window I have several rust spots. More on front doors near the windows only a few on rear doors. does anyone else have this happing to their trucks. Took it to Toyota and district manager stated that it was out of warrenty and due to outside influence. Called toyota customer service and they stated that the distric managers word is god.

    None... Yet.
2011. Same thing. Had the dealer repair it once already but the paint has bubbled again and the rust is back in the drivers side door. Not happy.

I have just discovered rust spots around all 4 window frames of my 2013 Tacoma. It appears others have had this issue. My truck is 48 months old rust warranty says 60 mos. This appears to be a design flaw and door replacements flush with windows is the only solution as repairing spots is a bandaid for return of rust based on design. Are there others? Class action lawsuits pending?

Reviving a bit of an old thread. I'm just noticing rust on two of my window frames on my 2014. Taking it to the dealer this week.

Gentlemen, I have the same issue with my 2014 White Tacoma. I have been dealing with Dealer and District manager said same thing - Due to outside influences. He never even looked at my truck. The body shop employee at the dealership when he was taking photos of the rust spots mentioned another incident and said it appears to be prevalent in the White vehicles. I have two colleagues with 2013 white Tacomas. I inspected their vehicles in the parking lot at work - guess what? They also have rust developing around the window frames. I let them know to take it in as well. THIS ISSUE IS NOT AN ISOLATED INCIDENT and can't be coincidental.

Pardon my ignorance but is that the front windshield weather seal? I'm trying to reference where on the truck we are looking. My first thought is that if they are on the leading edge of the pillars I would say its from rock chips causing small failures in the paint but I can't tell for sure where they're located. The bottom left picture looks like there are several small pinholes maybe from a bad factory paint job or something... it almost looks thin.

No, these are around the window frames of all 4 doors. They are not from rock chips.

Just looked at my window frames, all that face the front of the vehicle all have many small chips from various pieces of road debris but the paint doesn't look so orange peeled and thin. Yours seems like a paint issue when the vehicle was built. :( Maybe an actual body guy will chime in

The paint on these trucks is terrible. My hood is very chipped down to white primer in many places and my roof completely rusted through with no outside intervention at all in the very mild SoCal weather.

Very thin paint seems to be a very common trend among Japanese vehicles and also apparently american (if I'm not mistaken the Tacoma is manufactured stateside??)

Living in Arizona you learn quickly that the sun rapes paint. All you can do is seal it, keep many layers of wax on it and try to park under cover as much as possible. I see Tacomas driving around all the time with roofs and hoods that look exactly like yours. I don't think there is too much you can do to prevent that eventually happening over many years unless you keep your vehicle covered all the time but you can delay it a bit.

Detailing my truck today and I just noticed some very small spots. Wouldn't have noticed them, but I remembered reading this thread a few days ago and decided to check mine out. They are very tiny at this point, almost pin hole sized, but gonna clean them up and put some touch up paint on them and see how they do. It's so small I was sbld to scrape the rust off. So far I only found it on a the front passenger side.
