10-15%?? That's a massive gain. How many fans were you spinning??

These look way cool. Almost makes me with I needed a new radiator.

I'd need one for use with the stock fan however..

I ran an electric fan in my '78 Toyota pickup. It didn't cool as well as the stock setup going slowly in a hot place (Guatemala and Honduras). We had to turn the cab heat and fan on full. Fortunatly that saved us. I put the stock fan back on when I got home.

One flexalite. You notice just a tad bit of surge when you turn the fan on, but equalizes after it gets spinning. I will never use a mechanical fan ever again, which may be attributed to my willingness to do electrical wiring for fun

What do you mean by surge? I think my water pump maybe leaking. If it is, I'll likely ditch the mechanical fan and get an electric setup. Are you still on the stock radiator or did you upgrade to this one? If you're running the Ron Davis radiator, are you running the Flex-a-lite setup for the 2tr-fe with it or an universal Flex-a-lite?

Oh, I thought you were saying you got a 10-15% increase in power.

I had nightmares with my flexalite setup. Random blown fuses and eventually a fried controller(yes, the ~5 wires were hooked up properly) made me swap back to the worry-free mechanical fan.

I had nightmares with my Flexalite efans as well on my 04. Dual efan setup controlled by a switch and not thermostatic. It never kept my motor cool offroad (on road it was great, off road in 4lo I would overheat going uphill for any length of time).

Then one day the wiring harness caught fire on my way to work, so I had a stock fan clutch put back in and my overheating woes went away completely. The PO had the Flexalite setup installed by a reputable shop but maybe they botched the install, who knows. Either way I've been very way of efans ever since, esp since the stock fan clutch has done me so well comparatively. Although this thread has me thinking about them again and wondering if maybe my previous setup was a bad egg...

I kicked myself in the balls repeatedly for making my reliable truck into an unreliable time bomb..and paying good money to do so.

On my Tundra the lower radiator hose was routed dangerously close to the flexalite bracket which eventually rubbed through...twice. :frusty: I'm sure I could have remedied that situation, but the electrical issues still existed. It was the dual fan setup so maybe I would have had less issues with a single fan...at the cost of less airflow. :goingcrazy:

I had issues as well with my 95. I had two thermo controls go bad before I just went to a manual switch. It surprised me how little the fan really was needed.
I think the fancy switch mentioned earlier is pretty sweet and very well may be worthwhile. I know for sure there was a noticeable increase in power for my 95 and made it all worth it.

It's absolutely a noticeable HP increase. And I never trust anyones wiring. I wired in my own switch and relay to avoid exactly what you went through.

Surge as in the alternator needing to kick in harder after the initial spin up of the fan. You can see the light dim when you switch it on, and then it equalizes out after a moment. I got my stock radiator with the tacoma flexalite. Bolted right in, and works excellent.

No thermostat? I'd rather not have to manually operate the fan. Like I said, it was wired properly, but it wasn't reliable equipment. This was a few years ago so maybe they've upgraded their electronics since then.

Thanks for the info. Are you running a thermostat? It doesn't sound like you are, but if so, are you running the one that comes with the flex-a-lite kit? Also, where did you install the coolant temp sensor?
