Does running into things count as a mod?
Newbie here, just wondering if anyone has used/ manufactured a set of contractors rails to go around a shell to act as rails for a rooftop tent or other attachments.

I used l-track for my roof rack rails, and some lock-in/removable mounting points, then used square tube for my crossbars. This is after I reinforced the interior. USCARGOCONTROL.COM is where I ordered mine. Pretty cheap stuff, and it's aluminum.

    You are welcome.
I really like the windoor. I only have passenger side, but I can set up that side with items, boxes, or bags I want immediate access to.

Picked up this Leer 180 Mid-rise for $500! Equipped with screened sliders and reinforced roof with rack tracks. I changed over to locking T-Handles and installed a pop-and-lock tailgate handle.

Before the Leer, I had a Century cap meant for a Nissan. It somewhat fit and was dirt cheap. It came with Yakima Towers+bars and was in decent shape. It was impossible to stop the leaks from the upper corners of the bed, the rear door eventually broke off due to the hinge rotting.

Well believe it or not. My dealer mentioned it was in California. So I am starting to believe him. Leer themselves told him that. My dealer was like, "my customer wants this shell, I can't tell him you guys can't make it when he has pictures of a truck with the topper he wants"
Your topper just became the unicorn leer topper for all 05-15 DSCB tacomas. Pretty freaking crazy.

Dynatrac ProRock 60 Rear Axle, that is important enough.
Well I don't have a rearview mirror on the front windshield anymore as it was pointless...

But as far as reversing, I have the side mirrors and the rear view camera.

As far as changing lanes. I bought a set of Trail Toys side view mirrors and those work great for the side mirror for changing lanes and seeing who is behind me.

I bought one of these over 12 years ago. After 5 or 6 years, the canvas ended up shrinking and becoming stiff. After having the sides rolled up for a few weeks, I could no longer snap them closed. I ended up just cutting the sides and back panels off. I had a "bikini top" for a while, before ditching it. The topper rails that bolt to the bed rails ended up rusting out as well.

Hopefully, yours has better materials and lasts longer than mine did.

I have been waiting a very long time to post here. Finally got my shell a few weeks ago. I Budgeted 1- 1.2k to buy a used shell, but was having the hardest time finding one in my color. I found a white one locally that was a great deal so decided I would just get it painted. I have had it for 2 weeks now, but I actually don't think it looks horrible not matched. I think I am going to hold off for a little while and start saving as if I didn't already have the money to get it painted. I have a terrible habit of spending money on my truck as soon as I have it. I am Proud of myself for being strong willed this time. good job me!

I was in a similar boat. Was going to paint my black shell white, but once I painted my wheels, I was digging the two tone look. IMG_1114.jpg

    Hi, new to this,
Just got a 2017 Tacoma and would like to get a shell for it.
I would like to get a used top because i would like to save money and like the look of them with a different shell color

I've been trying to figure out what years will fit the 2017 bed and if any other years for different trucks would work as well?

I would like it for my dog because he likes to go everywhere with me so i thought a screen and one with a sliding window so he can get in the cab would be nice.
I would also like to use it for camping.

If anyone has any ideas or suggestions it would help me a lot looking for one.
    thanks

Welcome to TW! Only part I can answer is that the only caps that'll fit your truck are ones for a 2016-2017

Agreed! Especially when you are rocking Black and white! That combo can never go wrong!
