Reverse break squeak

Just went to have my breaks worked on cause I have a really bad squeak only when I'm in reverse from the breaks. Had them look at it and said my breaks look fine and there was nothing wrong with them. Just couldn't figure out why the squeak. It's a 2011 2wd with a 3 inch lift. Anybody else had this issue at all? How do you fix it?

 

My 2012 does it every morning , first reverse of the day, then nothing, works great after first backup. Oh, only had it 6mos., 2nd owner, 24,xxx miles, . I'm gonna live with it till it needs new brakes I guess. Also, my retired neighbors love it every weekday morning about 0530 as I am leaving for work, lol.

 

Mine does it too the first reverse of the morning. It's a quirk.

 

I have a 2013 dcsb and it does it every morning.

 

I have a 2007 Tacoma. Squeaks every time I reverse as well. Went to the shop for my routine oil change and tire rotation... they assure me that my Rear brakes are fine and don't need repair... just have to put up with the noise... the worst part is my own embarrassment.

 

This is an enhancement on our trucks. It ensures you are alert when you are backing up so you're not on your phone or something.

 

You could try lubing all the contact points. Not talking about the pads. All metal contact points should have high temp grease to prevent squeaks and squeals. Usually new brake pad sets come with little lube packets, but it's barely enough to do the job.

 

Lubrication in the right place will fix the problem.

There are several points, front and rear, that benefit from cleaning and lubing at least once a year. More often if you live in salt country or run deep mud a lot.

It's simple, cheap and easy, but will take a little bit of time. Mostly because of getting each corner up and down and the wheel off/on.

If you do your own tire rotations, that's a good time to do it.

It is normal for early morning reverse noise. Overnight the rotors cool down and absorb moisture, which rusts and causes the noise, especially on reverse.

If it happens all the time in reverse it could be a rotor "rifling" problem or a drum "rifling" problem. Poor pad material (non-oem) is another culprit.

Either way I don't ever worry too much about reverse noise, especially when it's inconsistent.

 

life hack: just park in reverse.

 

Yep my brakes squeak in reverse every damn morning.

 

If it's bothering you that much why not try either one of these products?
Use some on both front and rear brakes.
