Why would that be? I purchased an Octane 45 in December but just called my dealer and they said the ATF received my paperwork on 2/23 (they had to form 3? it). I'm hoping what you say is true.

All I can do is go by what I'm told....

ATF has added staff to current office locations since mid last year to help reduce traffic time in processing times. But with the current load dumped on ATF by Silencerco and the changes created by 41F and lack of efficiency and choke point put into play with the past administration has it fucked the process for the time being.

I gotcha. Is your buddy a dealer or with the ATF?

People were freaking out with the last administration 41F trust changes and a boat load of Attorneys jumping on the NFA band wagon that it literally almost brought the whole process to a halt so the Gov't could wrap their heads around what they did 41F is still full of loop holes in the eye of may...

Awesome! Hopefully my dealer taking forever to send the paperwork in will benefit me.

Like I say it should calm down here soon once this rush is over......

The industry-wide error rate is close to 50% for forms submitted post-41F to the ATF.... THIS was the HUGE reason for most of the backlog after 41F causing the current issues along with ATF being handcuffed on purpose with this sandbag job.

Read on another forum that ATF sent out an internal memo looking for staff volunteers to serve a 90 day period assisting in processing to push through the backlog.

Still waiting. Purchased 375 days ago and still waiting.
I got caught up in the Silencershop kiosk "glitches" when they first implemented them. What should have been an easy application turned into a nightmare. For some reason two form 4s submitted at the same time and paid together have a "check cashed" date of Oct 28 and Dec 6. How the heck did that happen? All I got from Silencershop was a sorry.

    Individuals.

Ok, here is something I don't know or understand. Is there anyone who can legally own a gun but not an NFA item? Is the background check different than the NICS check? If so, and it turns up a reason you can't have an NFA item, does it put your ability to own guns into question?

The frustrating thing for me is I have held a security clearance for the last 17 years. Shouldn't my background check already be done?

I have a TS/SCI, wasn't caught up in any "glitches" that I'm aware of and had the same concern. Both were form 4's and they took 375 and 382 days.

    YMMV

NFA is not different from a background check that would be performed for a "Secret or top Level" security clearance other than people being contacted for in person interveiw or poly.I am going to confirm this tomorrow too see if any differences apply.

I have a buddy who has TS/SCI and he gets delayed for days sometimes when buying firearms. Me I go in pick a gun do the the paper work and I'm approved in less than 5 minutes 100% of the time.....

Yeah. I would think the work has already been done, fingerprints on file, etc. If a person has passed a secret or higher clearance, what more are they going to look at for an NFA item? Seems a lot of extra work being done for nothing, but I guess that sums up a lot of the government.

You still have to wait in line, a security clearance doesn't change that.
