Honestly considering these mounts do still have flex to them, just a reduced amount you should be fine. I'm my field of work a large amount of oscillation is a bad thing and usually ends in broken parts. These will help transfer more power to the ground without your drive-train bouncing around. I highly recommend installing the DMZ motor mount gussets to keep the frame side happy with or without my motor mounts installed.

 

Do the DMZ motor mount gussets apply to years beyond '05, '06; the years people were having the most problems?

 

Yes Tim @ DMZ offers kits for 07-15 also. Toyota "fixed" it by adding another plate similar to the FJs but it's still not strong enough.

 

does the 4wd 6spd trans mount fit 3rd gen? or do you have any plans for 3rd gen?

Has anyone else had a lot of fitment issues with the motor and trans mounts?

I installed the motor mounts in August and they barely fit. I was just barely able to center the engine perfectly enough to start the nuts and then had to go back and forth between sides forcefully pulling the mounts outward to the frame. There’s quite a bit of tension.

Last week I installed the transmission mount which went into position fine. The problem is that my drive train angle changed enough that my radiator fan is contacting the bottom of the fan shroud. There’s over a 2” space between the fan and the top of the shroud. I’m not sure how many degrees down the engine moved, but it’s significant.

I was finishing up a front long travel install at the same time and started driving the truck again this Tuesday. Makes a lot of noise when the fan really gets going in traffic.

I installed DMZ solid mounts on another member’s truck a few weekends ago. They went in with very little effort and he’s having no issues after the fact. Unless someone has a good suggestion I’m thinking they’re a total loss. I’ve had no luck contacting Anthony since August.

I’m learning R&D in the offroad business is charging hundreds and thousands of dollars for slick looking metal bits, doing one test fit and waiting to see what problems the customers have.

Customer service at that point is optional for the vendor. Depends on if they have integrity, care about the people who support them and the success of their business.

 

Same issue here with the fan hitting the shroud.

 

You could get some energy suspension bushings for the front mounts. On install put the thinner one on top. It will drop the radiator support down about 1/2".
I had to do this after rebuilding the front clip of the frame to drop the radiator down off the fan.

 

If its hitting the top then I could use the lift on my motor.

 

I was discussing that with another member too. Which lead to his DMZ mount install.
I actually have the bushings installed that way already. So the effect of these mounts is so bad it creates contact with an already slightly lowered radiator support. I’d have to cut the top bushing down to gain more clearance.

I considered making plates to push the mounts in from the frame side. 1/4 or 3/8”.

I’m hoping the lower engine angle isn’t putting stress on anything I haven’t found yet. Especially when I’m able to actually start beating on this thing.

Doesn’t seem like it. Why, do you want DTF engine mounts? Worst install I’ve ever had to do, plus a lot of bad side effects.

DMZ mounts slipped right in, no issues. Really sucked having to do this twice and paying for it twice. I’d contact DMZ or @Bonzen.

@Bonzen only makes the engine mount and DMZ will sell you whichever you want.
I’ve installed the DMZ mounts on two separate trucks with no issues. They go right in.

 

Are they designed that much differently?

 

The DTF mounts had my fan into my fan shroud. It was almost impossible to get the bolt holes to line up or even get the nuts started on the threads.

Once I did, with the engine hovering perfectly in the air, I went from side to side dragging the mounts outward to meet the engine. The bushings were screaming by the end of it.

I installed the trans mount at a later time and that lifted the trans up, tilting the engine down even more.

DTF on the left. No good.
