hey guys, I have a 1998 Tacoma 2.7 , went to clean the throttle body and really got down into it with cleaner and a toothbrush. when I pulled it out I found a ton of build up way past the throttle body. it's really thick heavy build up. anybody have any ideas as to how to clean it up, maybe some sea foam or something? I can imagine its probably all the way to the cylinder head. I just got this truck a few weeks ago so I don't know the history of the vehicle . it dose have a slight hesitation when you first take off and it don't get very good gas mileage. first fill up got me 230 miles. slow as a turtle and has very slow to zero acceleration . if you guys have and suggestions let me know , thanks !

    Pop off the intake and...

Boom. Just got done doing this to my upper and lower intake plenums on my v6 and they are spotless inside now. Just get some bottle brushes and oven cleaner if you have a 99 cent / dollar store around with that stuff and you should be good to go. Check your pcv valve to make sure it isn't stuck open to see if that could be causing excess carbon build up.

I like this idea. I've read about others using diesel fuel as a cleaner, but I like this better. THanks for posting @Dalandser

The new engine and transmission are still waiting to go in - I just got a new job that I was waiting to see if I got before buying a new clutch and headers.

A key to degreasing anything is heat so have a spray bottle or bucket of piping hot water or even just run it in the water in tub with the water on full hot.
