I'm wiring up a switch for a LED light bar and need to connect one wire to the dash light circuit to illuminate the switch when the headlights are on. Can anyone tell me what color wire to tap into and where it would be located?

I ran a fuse tap into the fuse panel under the dash. I wasn't to keen on splicing into factory wires. IMG_4983.jpgIMG_4984.jpg image.jpg

CountryDan, I like your idea. Is the outlet you tapped into only hot when the lights are on? I only want the switch illuminated while the headlights are on not anytime the ignition is on.

I have my lights wired where they can be on at anytime, However the switch is wired where where it (the switch), will only illuminate if the dash lights are on.

That worked perfectly CountryDan, the vacant fuse slot you pointed out is only hot when the headlights are on. And I'm definitely going to get some more CH4X4 switches, they fit perfectly, the label lights up with the headlights, and the icon lights up when the switch is turned on to lt you know your lightbar, foglights, etc.. are on.

This that and the other thing.
FWIW if you want them to dim with the dash lights this is what I did:

I wired them to the dimmer switch to the left of the steering wheel. Green with WHITE stripe is GROUND and solid GREEN is your positive. worked in my 09 but cant hurt to double check with a multimeter

EDIT: you wont damage anything if u wire it backward. if its wired backwards it will act in a opposite manner. so when u dim the dash, switch will get brighter. swap the wires and ur good to go

i really wanted to get the dimmer function to work. i confirmed with OTRATTW that my switches (V1D1FBBB) dim, and quick spliced to the green (+) and green w/white stripe (-) wires on the traction control switch to the led terminals on the switch. didn't work. the traction control switch light is controlled by the dimmer and there are only 4 wires connected to it. not sure where i went wrong here.

so forget dimming. now i am trying get the same result OP was looking for - getting the upper led of my switches to illuminate with the headlights on and the lowers light up when the switch is activated. i have the upper switch led positive lead connected to an add-a-fuse per @CountryDan.

question: is there a spot to ground in the fuse box area?

edit: i'm just talking about the ground for the switch light. i don't have much free wire so a screw in the fuse box or somewhere behind the gas or break pedal would be good.

I grounded my switches on a little screw behind the kick panel.

If I remember correctly, when I installed my CB, I grounded it, somewhere near the fuse box/under the dash.

2 options for you that I'm using on driver side. Just need a ring style terminal on the end of your wire that's the right size for the bolt to pass through.

1: Behind the fuse access panel there is a bolt you can use. I have my CB grounded there. It works.
2: Behind the kick panel there is a mounting bracket with a bolt you can use. I have the switches for my light bars grounded here.

Side note about my switches in case someone here has similar ones. My switches have 5 pins. 2 pins are for the lighting the words at bottom half of switch (pos & neg). I have these 2 spliced into another dash light so they light up with all the other dash lights and work with the dimmer. I used the light by the auto gear shift to splice into and used 22ga wire. The other 3 pins on the switch are for the actual switch function (power, device, ground). I have this power from my extra fuse panel I added (always hot) and this ground is just for the light on the top half of the switch that illuminates when the switch is in the on position and this is what I have grounded on that kick panel bolt.

    ground2.jpg

edit: I couldn't put tap the same spot that @CountryDan used a few posts up because I already have an add-a-fuse in the ACC slot next too it. Not enough space for 2 of those side by side. That's why I just spliced into another dash light to make my switches light up whenever other dash lights are on.
