K&N Cold Air Intake

has anyone bought the K&N Cold Air Intake (the open box one) and put it in their 2nd gen?? If so was it easy to install and how has performance changed?? If you have pics they would be greatly appreciated!!

okay...well what about a closed box cold air intake.....like the one made by Volant

 

the afe stage 2 one is the one i was originally looking at.....so your saying the afe CAI wont confuse the MAF?? and for the afe one would i need to buy an air scoop or anything or just what the kit comes with?

 

I have the 63 series CAI from K&N on my 09 OR TRD and not only does it sound a lot more throaty at around 4300-5100 RPMs, it has improved my MPG. I used to get 290 miles to a tank and now I get 315 miles. I don't speed but I get to the speed limit really fast.

 

I installed my K & N Intake the day after I received my truck, which was only last week, so I can't offer any insight to MPG gains. BUT, performance wise, it appears (IMO) to be much more responsive and creates quite a "growl" above 2,500.

As for ease of install, on a scale of 1 to 10, its a 4. It took me 2 hours <-- OCD, when it comes to details. lol The MOST time consuming part was positioning the "intake tube" on the throttle body correctly, so it fits into the air filter box.

Although, I will admit I enjoy doing aftermarket installs, so I always tend to lean more
towards to the satisfaction that I receive from it, not how much time I put in it.

Yea I have the same setup as well. Took me about an hour to install it. Def gives a throaty sound to it, especially when you have an aftermarket exhaust or in my case a TRD catback. I also put on a dry charger wrap for wet and dusty conditions - which only reduces the air flow about 5% compared to w/o it.

I have the k&n. it sounds good and gave me better response at wide open throttle. Ive lost power in the low end but made up for it in the top end. IMO its not really worth it unless you drive really fast all the time..

 

i have athe k&n 77 series on sounds awesome if anything saw a loss in mpg much better thottle response but only hp increase seems to be in the higher rpms when thr throttle is opened up i've heard that the trd cai is really good from other guys who had the k&n and switched either way i think u should go with a maf calibrator and have it tuned cause gadget doesnt have a tune for the k&n 77 series hope this helps

you cant go wrong with the AFE intake. they make good stuff.

 

For the best performance, put a K&N in the stock box and remove the secondary filter. It helped my performance alot and did not affect MPGs.

 

where is the secondary filter??
