I'll start by saying I've been doing research and haven't been able to find much about any issues in running 4 oem spare wheels on my Taco. Sorry if I just missed those threads..

Anyhow call me crazy but I like the look of the steel wheels and I'm a broke college student looking to do a few things to my PreRunner. Anyone see any safety issues in running 4 factory spare wheels? Also if anyone has any pictures I'd love to see you setup! Thinking maybe try to hit up a few local salvage yards and see if anyone has them.

A lot of us Canadians run black steel spares as winter tires. I still have my set after selling the truck. The problem is the off set, they stick inwards and don't feel very aggressive.

So I need to check make sure they are the same width but I am planning on having the tires swapped off current wheels to the 4 factory spares, so won't be using the old spare tires just the wheels.

Steelies are my favorite wheels. I've had zero issues.

You are good to go. The wheels are safe for full-time use. Had snow tires on mine and ran them through several salty winters and several wheeling trips:

Why would spare wheels be unsafe?

Awesome love the look of the top pic! Thanks for the info, just wasn't sure if Toyota meant for the spare to wheel to see extended use. Now if I can just find a set of them!

When i swapped to steelies i had to get a new set of acorn style lug nuts as the factory lugs are a shank type and are only meant to be temporary with the factory spare steelie. Im a first gen but should be the same factory lugs styles as 2nd???

There's a lot of misinformation out there. Compact spares (like the one in the Ridgeline) typically have a 50 mph speed limit on the tire (but not the wheel). Since the Tacoma has a full-size spare, no such limit exists.
