I will be taking a trip to Colorado during the first week of August and am looking for a place to off-road. I have heard that Engineer's Pass is pretty good but was wondering if anyone else knew of a specific place to go to. We will be camping around Gleenwood Springs but will be driving all over the state. Also, where can I find an extra gas can or two that connect to the factory rail system on my '12 TRD?

Kingston Peak followed by Rollins pass is a great route with awesome views. Rollins pass has a cool side route called Jenny Creek that is a really fun trail that most of it is driving up the actual creek. With your set up you shouldn't have any issues I wouldn't think. From my recollection there is one spot on Jenny creek where I needed a tug trying to get up and over some rocks in my old Jeep Cherokee. But that Jeep had open diffs. If I had a rear locker and/or longer wheel base I don't think there would have been an issue. Also, it wasn't a "I'm totally stuck" scenario. It was just a "I might have to turn around and go an easier route" scenario.

If you do the Kingston Peak trail, bring a rock from wherever you're from, there is a cool "rock house", built by people just placing rocks there from where they are from or writing their name on rocks that they place. It's pretty cool. The second pic below shows tha rock house thing. I don't have any pics of the Jenny Creek/Rollins pass trail. But there are amazing views at the top with a couple high altitude lakes, and at the base of the trail is one end of the Moffat Tunnel. Which is a pretty cool rail road tunnel that has a crazy jet engine like sound when a train is about to go through, I believe from the ventilation system or something.

Another good trail that I haven't done recently but is also awesome is Radical Hill(near ish to Keystone). Really nothing technical about this trail, just great views. First three pics are up Radical hill with my old Jeep Cherokee. The last ones with my Tacoma are up Kingston Peak.
