while removing rear brake drum on 2008 Tacoma the spot welded weight fell off the drum. Hate to buy a new drum as it is in good shape. Do I need to have that welded back on ( which would probably cost almost as much as new drum) or just let it go? How critical is it?

reassemble and see if you can tell a difference. don't know that i've ever seen one on an aftermarket drum, but its been years since I've installed one.

odds are the only reason you know is gone is you knocked it off, if it had fallen off prior you likely would never have noticed or known

HAHA, guilty as charged!!! Was tapping drum to loosen it and weight fell on floor. Was going to try and braze it back on but think I'll just let go. Thanks blkvoodoo and Jeffch.

I've knocked off a hundred, never had a complaint. The amount of mud and rust that gets trapped in the lip negates whatever balancing it did when they were new.
