Thanks for all the input. I am still on the fence, and have decided to take a little more time and keep checking out the hundreds of lifted Tacomas I see every week here. And most of all - I should really ride in a few. I'll just try and be a bit more patient, save a little more money, and keep on reading TacomaWorld.

One last question which I haven't seen discussed, but it probably has. How does lifting affect the resale value? I am guessing that you generally don't get out what you put in. And/or it may make it a little harder to sell. Have I guessed correctly?

Yeah - I'm lucky in that regard. It seems Tacomas hold their value extremely well over here.

My fiancé and I both have 2004 trucks. Hers is a basic Tacoma model, and mine is a 4x4 Ford Sport Trac - loaded, with everything. Same miles - and after checking Craigslist here and the BB, hers is worth almost twice what mine is. And mine has started giving me trouble. That's why I ended up buying Tacoma.

Brah, its Big Island. I have bought a used Taco before, Slapped a 100 dollar ebay puck lift, and made back 1k over blue book. It is all about what people are willing to pay. Being Big Island, people pay, even if it is a puck lift, they pay. My example is not the norm, but it just shows what some people will pay here.

Or you could be like me and lift it 3 separate times.... seems like nothing is good enough.

I'm being financially responsible and paying off the truck first before I start modding. With that said, I just went up a hill with ease when a lifted 2nd gen 4 runner got stuck. Actually there were two hills. One of the hill was steep that my rear two hitch scraped the ground going up. Made it up just fine.
