Drivers door lock

The inside lever for the drivers door lock does not work, it just flips back and forth. The door lock functions with the remote and the power door lock button but the lever doesn't work.
I opened the door and the cable to the lever is attached and moves so I'm guessing it may be disconnected in the lock mechanism itself. Has anyone encountered this and is there an easy fix or tutorial.
