    Hey guys,

My Cooper tires are looking like they're going to be shot here pretty soon. I'm currently running 285/75 R16s and was wondering if I could bump up a size and run 285/75 R17s. Does anyone have experience with this tire size? I know lots of people are running 285/70 R17s, but I haven't heard of anyone really running a 285/75 R17.

    Thanks,

    Andy

A 285 75 17 is a 34" tire you know that right. @dumontrider is running some. Be prepared for lots of hammering and cutting. I'm running a 295 70 17 with a 5" lift up front and rub at full lock and at full stuff at the top of wheel well

I am aware that it's a 34" tire. I have a pretty extreme CMC and roughly 3in of lift up front. I'm just not sure at what point it is necessary to cut your fenders. I guess I'm just trying to see what all needs to be done to run one. Is it as difficult as running a 315 or can could you get away with it more easily due to the reduced width.

It would be easier to run a 285 75 cause it's not as wide as a 315. It's possible to run the tire you want. Just depends on how much you want to cut and hammer. I say do it

Somebody called? I trimmed before my alignment, only because I had to commute to work for a week before the alignment, I did NOT want to chew up $1,200 tires lol. Before anyone asks, no, my shop doesn't give a print out of the numbers so I'm not much use :bananadead:
But I had to do a ton of trimming in the rear before my alignment. Hammered my pinch weld, trimmed the liner, notched the bottom 5" of fender, CMC. I'm lifted about 4" with the spindles & King coils. LMK if you have any questions or want some pics of this tire size.

Any pictures would be great. I have one inch less lift than you and would be curious to see if I could make it work. I've got my CM chopped so it wraps around the actual mount, not just the typical cutting it back a half inch. I've also trimmed out the inside of my fender flare. I have no rubbing whatsoever with 285/75 16s, I'm just wondering if I could get away with going up a tire size with only minor trimming and not chopping my fenders. Thanks for the help!

I have a set of 285/75R17 Ridge Grapplers that I will be putting on at the end of the week. CMC is already done, so I will make sure to take some pictures after alignment and post them for reference.

Bottom pic was before King coil overs & Maxtrax spindles, just 885 springs for about 3" of lift. Didnt drive it like this, only installed for pics. I dont really have any pics of where I trimmed.... Let me know if you want anything specific.

Sorry for the late response, but did you ever get this done? If so, how did everything fit and work out?

That's good timing, I just got the alignment done this morning. Hopefully I will get the tires installed this afternoon or possibly tomorrow afternoon.

Hahaha I guess my late response worked out well. If you wouldn't mind taking some pictures and giving your first impressions, that'd be great.

How much cutting did you have to do and what size loft are you running?

    I've looked into 295 75 16s as well. The 285 75 17s are a little bit bigger, but I also wouldn't mind running a 295 on my 16s.

Radflo Ext Travel Coilovers and upper arms. Clear with no cutting. I was actually surprised I didnt even have to do the body mount chop

I might go that route in the future since I don't want to have to buy new 17" wheels.

It is looking like it will be tomorrow but I will make sure to post some pics. I will post one with the wheel at full lock showing the clearance (or lack of) behind the tire since that is usually where they rub the most.
