Now I pretty much have heard and read that only the 16" wheels and larger will work.

Can the Tundra Calipers be ground enough to make them work on 15" wheels ??

Has anyone ever tried it ??

It is only Metal not I like I would try with brand new one first .

I have 16" wheels with tundra calipers and they are incredibly close to the wheels. There is maybe 1/8" gap between the caliper and wheel. I highly doubt that any 15" wheel would fit.

With 16" wheels, the tundra calipers *barely* fit. So, a 1" shorter diameter wheel means you'd have to grind 1/2" off the caliper to make it fit.

That's insane. Don't even think about doing that.

Sell the 15's and get 16's.

The smaller 199 brakes are found on limited 3rd gen 4runners also.

Like everyone has said, the 231s fit super tight inside 16s, you would have to take 1/2" off the calipers to clear 15s.

The smaller Tundra brakes are S13WE. I saw a pair of them at the junkyard today and they are incredibly small, they look identical to the Tacoma calipers. You need the bigger S13WL.

@mechanicjon has a paper template of the Tundra caliper outline so you can test if it would fit or not. My stock 15" alloy wheels from the factory won't fit according to the template.

The 199mm only give you a thicker rotor for the most part. The increase in diameter to 231mm is what gives you the extra braking power.
I believe the 199mm will fit with 15inch wheels. But why?

Nice @Wyoming09 upgrading eh? I think the stock five spoker 16" wheels fit and you could probably find some for not much more than you could sell your 15"r's for. Good time to get better tires with winter coming anyway ;)

Since I have two vehicles and 8 wheels for each with almost new tires on now plus 8 brand new tires mounted on the extra wheels.

The little gain I doubt would be worth the huge cost to switch every thing over.

Just go with all new front brake parts and call it good

I was just doing some thinking and I thank everyone for your replies

It's all good. The Tundra braking calipers aren't the only braking upgrade that fits on our trucks.

What is the benefit of using bigger calipers? I can easy lock both whedls on the dry pavement (screeching stop) with all stock brakes (I mean original 95 calipers just new pads and rotors). I don't have ABS. So my stopping power is as good as my tires allow. The rear is still all factory stock - all parts the way they put it in 95.

I have 15x6 original steel wheels with BFG KO2 30x9.5R15.

Trd S\C with nosecone hybrid bearing upgrade kit. 2.0 urd pulley, 7th injector kit-urd "6 fabtech lift with 3" body lift. 20" XD spy wheels with toyo open country r\t's in 37"x 12.50x20. Front and rear diffs re-geared to 4.88 dirty 30 drive axles. and a rhino pack clutch. Custom exhaust and huge mudflaps!
the benefit is the stopping power available! You go test the brakes normally unloaded and then put a huge amount of weight and then test the brakes again That reduced brake feel under heavy load will never be there with the upgrade.....There 40% stronger and have like a 30% increase in pad surface contact over stock. But the core charge on the caliper is $75 each so there not cheap but a worth while upgrade if your doing heavy hauling, towing and or performance driving and or bigger wheels and tires and those reasons only.

Got it. Thank you for clarification. So since I have 15 inch tires almost stock size and the heaviest load I have is no more than 700lb on the bed I guess this mod is not for me. Since I can lock front tires with my stock brakes I don't need more stopping power.

I assume you have snow tires or something?

Since you say the tires and wheel you have are almost new, you could probably sell them and recoup most of the costs, aside from the tundra brakes.

Bt I can certainly see the aversion to geting 8 new wheels and tires. As others said, here are other upgraded calipers out here that would fit, you just wouldn't get the extra diameter of the trundra upgrade. Still better brakes, though. Or just get vented and/or cross drilled rotors and better pads.

You'll notice it most when loaded going down a step grade. You won't over heat the brakes and get into a brake fade problem.

I also have the other Toyota`s from the mid-eighties that I run the 15" wheels

I like having one size tire that if need be can be used on anything .

Plus my driving style coming down hills is no different then when I grossed 80,000 + which tends to piss people off no end .

I have never heated brakes to the point they give off the nice aroma of burning brake material

Once you get bigger tires the stock brakes suck too, I upgraded to the tundra brakes after I went with larger tires and am glad I did.

even going to 32s and adding steel bumpers drastically reduced the braking. will be upgrading to tundras later the year.
