Yup. 18,000 miles and I'm at the wear bars on all 4 tires. All my driving has been on smooth interstates or within the city. (I don't drive much, as you can tell since my truck is a 2015)

I know that the OEM tires are always a softer compound for a smooth/quiet ride, so it should be interesting to see how the truck drives on the next set of rubber.

Are Firestone Destination ATs good to go?

I'm sorry to hear that. No one wants to buy new tires at 18K miles. The Firestones are not bad tires at all. My son has them on his 16 Cherokee Trailhawk and they ride nice and are ok for light off-roading. I'd say I'd prefer them off-road more than the Rugged Trails but I'm not a fan of the Rugged Trails. I would suggest identifying what you need in a tire and then set a budget and go to tiresize.com or discounttiredirect.com and get what will meet your needs. The Cooper AT3s are good moderately priced tires as are the Falken Wildpeak AT3W. Best of luck OP.

Uh man that's not normal. If your at the tread wear indicator at that mileage you either have something seriously wrong with your vehicle or you have a defective set or you just drive like a maniac. Mine were the OEM Rugged Trails and I ran them for 58,000 miles and still had a little to go before I hit the tread wear indicators. If it's the tires they should have a warrranty that may pro rate them for the mileage. I still have my old ones for back ups just in case. I'm running Rugged Terrains now and I'm at 48,000 and still plenty to go.

Goodyear Wrangler Authorities will last to 60,000 miles no problem. I have a set on my reg cab and they wear better than any BFG I've owned. They handle great on road and off. Noisy as any mud tire though.

I'm sure there are a good amount of us who hope for our OEM tires to hit the wear marker prematurely. It allows for us to complain about how shitty the OEM tires were and for us to upgrade to some nice A/T or M/T tires.

There is actually a discussion on Tundrasolutions about why some Rugged Trails wear out so much faster than others. Honestly, this is not uncommon and there are apparently different versions of this tire. With only 18K miles I would almost take the tire manufacturer up on their prorated warranty and hope for a better set.

I guess I have been lucky all these years because I usually get good service out of my OEM tires. It is true that OEM tires are made to minimum manufacturer specs but I've had good service out of mine and generally get at least 45k out of my truck and SUV tires. I have 31K on my GTI tires and they still look great. The tires that we buy after we replace the OEM tires are generally better (same type OEM vs same aftermarket) but I have had no issues. I have heard of different versions of those BFGs giving issues whereas others say they wear well.

They are called Rugged Fails for a reason. They are junk.

You'll be hard pressed to find a gentler driver than me, and the truck is a garage queen with no mechanical issues.

I suspect the set I have are just REALLY soft as is sometimes the case with OEM tires. Not a big deal since I want a fresh set.

As The Real Moondog said, hit up BFG. Get those prorated, with that low of mileage a new set should be at a hefty discount.

I have 22k on my '15 and between 5/32 and 7/32 left with most of the wear on the outside of the tire. Probably could have inflated them to a higher PSI than what Toyota recommends to extend the life a little. Other than that, these tires will not last for more than another 3-4 K miles, if that. I drive in town and don't tow anything. Inflation has been maintained. I'm not impressed with the OEM Rugged Trails. Will be going with KOs or Duratracs.

Like I said, some people have issues with these tires. Some get excellent wear while others have issues like you are having through no fault of their own. These tires are like Jekyl and Hyde. Get BFG to hook you up because they do have a warranty and it is no secret that certain batches of these tires do this. Best of luck to you. Peace.

I'm at around 27k on mine. They aren't at the wear bars yet, not sure how much life they really have left. But they are worn down enough that I don't want to run them through another winter. I think I'm going to pick up some Michelin Defender LTX M/S replacements in the next couple months.

ETA: One thing I've noticed, the Rugged Fails are developing a whole lot of cracks in the treads.

I had about 50,000 on mine when I upgraded, still usable but needed replacing soon.

I replaced my OEM Rugged Trails at 45000 and had at least a few thousand left on them. I read a lot of negative comments about them but I never had a single issue with mine. I had numerous chunks missing and cuts here and there from the rocks here in AZ but never once did they puncture from anything but a couple times with nails or screws in the road.
