leveling 2016 with bilstein adjustable 5100

Zero here after a 400 mile road trip on my rear wheel drive truck. Rides better than stock.

I drive a 2017 4x4 Trd Sport and would also like to level the truck a little, but mainly would like to soften the ride. I don't off-road hardly at all, just a pavement pounder. I looks like the go to shocks are the 5100's. Do most of you consider they actually ride softer than the factory units. There are very few folks around here that I would consider suspension experts, so I rely greatly on what Tacoma World members experience. When I mention Bilstein to mechanics here, they say those are just for going off-road. Apparently, they do not really know what works best. Any other opinions or advice appreciated. Gettin old and wantin to ride softer!

 

I think they ride much better than the stock shocks. I installed 265/70/17 KO2 tires and with stock shocks it seemed like I felt every pebble and dip in the road. After installing Bilstein 5100's on all 4 corners level at 0.65 up front I barely feel any dips or transitions in the road. They ride great.

 

what setting do you have the front on? I have an access cab as well and ordered the 5100's yesterday. Thanks!

Haven't installed the 5100's yet (likely a few weeks due to busy schedule), but put the TRD Pro wheels on this weekend ... Very happy with the look.

 

Hello, I have a stock 17 Tacoma offroad 4x4. Looking to raise about 2 inches and level out. Will 5100s all around help? If so will I needs springs? Will my payload stay the same? Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks Fellas!

 

Yes payload will stay the same. no ou do not NEED springs. However 2in in the front will stock the nose way up. .75in is exactly level that why most here level at the .65in setting.

 

I am doing my best to learn as much as possible with tire sizing etc. I know that at stock height the max sizing would be 265/70/17. I want to get a wider and taller set of tires all around on my 2017 TRD Sport. From what I understand is that if I simply level the front with the 5100's to .65 i can fit a 270/70/17? Or am I completely out to lunch here... plan is to use the factory wheels but may go aftermarket to get a more flush look

I should add I am not looking for a lift as I cant justify it. Just want a little wider tire for more aggressive stance

Seems like everyone continues using stock springs and have no complaints

 

Post 345 shows my 2 wheel drive Sport with 5100's front and rear with stock springs and no issues. Front set at 0.65 with KO2 265/70/17. That is with +15 offset Toyota wheels that are outset 1/2" plus farther than stock Sport wheels. Have no clearance issues. You might be able to go to 275/70/17 but, at full lock, (1) may rub on mud flaps and (2) may need to trim the plastic just behind and below the mud flap as others have done. You will have zero issues on the rear tires. Just keep in mind that there is quite a bit of tread width difference between tire brands. The KO2 tire treads are wider than others in the same size. Also keep in mind the stock wheels are +30 offset so they may rub more at full lock with the same exact tire.

 

Thinking of leveling out my 2016 SR5 4x2..... the problem is that I don't know which generation of the 5100s I should buy. If I buy 2nd gens I would set them at .85 and if I buy the 3 gens I would set them at 1.1 (.65 just sounds too low). Any input from 4x2 owners?

 

As I previously stated mine measured perfectly level at 0.65 with 3rd gen 5100's which, if I recall correctly, added 0.9" to the front.

 

Ok my head is spinning. Looking to level a 16 trd sport dcsb 4x4. Gonna order 5100 for front and set either 2-3. And see where she sits. No bumper /winch at this time

Any suggestions for the rear ? 5100 for the rear? Keep stock?? No hardcore off-roading. Some minor trailer use More Home Depot runs couple hundred lbs in the bed occasionally.

Can I go up a size on tire and keep the stock wheel or is the offset not right?

You can go to 265/70/17 with stock wheels. The rear 5100 does not add any lift but is made to fit from stock to 1" of lift.

 

So no need to replace coils on the sport if I am looking to level it. I really don’t like spacers
