Hello fellow tacomaworld members, i seem to have run into a dilemma with my next tire choice. So since discount tire does their $100 off $425 or more in october i decided i should start looking now. I have two years of college ahead of me and im in a great spot right now, but with tires i cant make up my mind. I have decided on the general grabber AT2 tire because it looks like a very VERY solid all terrain. I narrowed down to two size choices and am so torn between 265/75/16 (E range, 52 pounds per tire) general grabber AT2's or just saying screw it and get 285/75/16 (D range, 58 pounds per tire) Now, normally anyone would say well yah go with the 33's duh! But i commute about an hour and 10 minutes to school each day back and forth. So now i am torn as to get these great tires in a heavy ass E range tire thats only like a 31.5 tire, or just get the 33's that weigh only a few pounds more. Anyone got any input for me here? Any tips, hints, suggestions are helpful incase im missing something here! Thanks for reading!

They're both stupid heavy. If you do that much pavement driving, why not pick a different model that suits your commuting needs a little better? Be honest with yourself about what you need.

A big deciding factor would be ride height. Is your truck lifted? If the answer is no then 265 is your best option. If you are at least leveled then we could consider the 285. With 285 come a bunch of issues by associated with it. For example wheel backspacing, cab mount rub ect. Just know that 285s wont just fit they will require fitting to work properly. Good Luck & stay in school!

I have bilstein 5100's set at 0 with 884 coils and a 2" AAL, im just trying to find a good all terrain tire that is aggresive enough to offroad with, is atleast a 265/75/16, but also be good for commuting. Anyone have any suggestions? Not really trying to spend more than 130-190 a tire.

@EatSleepTacos is running some Coopers that is a hybrid between an A/T and M/T tire. He seems to like them and runs them hard while offroad. Hopefully he can chime in and give you some feed back.

I am running 285/65r18 Mastercraft MXTs and they are heavy and loud. They would not be a good fit for your commute.

Every time I see a lifted truck with armor and 33s I get jealous.
Every time I go 2 weeks or more without having to fill my gas tank I become content.

That sounds like what we may be aiming for here. That commute on big tires on a daily basis would be bad.

I was running Terra G on my old Titan and when I got the Taco those were the tires on it. Its a really good all around tire with great wear. The only issue I had with mine was that they loved to pick up rocks and shoot them up will driving. Again I had the old Terra G not the G2's. Nitto has made some great improvements on them and it sounds like these may be a good fit for you

FYI, discount tire direct is running their Labor Day sale and they have their rebates up. They have extra rebates on Hankook, Continental and Bridgestone.

If you are not in a hurry to get tires wait a bit and save some $. These tires on this size are very common so they wont be going anywhere in 5 weeks time.

Indeed. I suppose there would be fewer pickups, SUV's and sports cars.
