Will a locking cap from Amazon work? Toyota does not sell locking caps. Called two dealerships. Would a GoPro camera record over night without dying?

Police said sugar in tank and vehicle wouldn't start. So I think I am in the clear as I drove to work this morning ..

Not necessarily but if it did run it would run like crap. This happened in my girlfriend's old neighborhood when she lived in a sketchy part of Hollywood a few times a year, the local kids would run around the neighborhood at night and open up people's gas caps just for the hell of it. Never stole gas or put anything in the tank, just removed the caps and left the doors open to mess with people. Probably what happened here, either that or they intended to do something or siphon gas but got spooked off.

I would siphon the gas. A tank of gas is a lot less than having other issues arise if something was added

A saboteur would put the cap back on and not make it glaringly obvious that the truck has been tampered with.

Yeah you would think so, if they wanted to do it right. Unless they got interrupted in the middle of it, and had to scoot before they put the cap back on.....

If 3rd gens still have a threaded cap (as opposed to the 1/4-turn type on 2005-2008 Tacos), Stant P/N 10504 would work. The same part was sold in dealers as Toyota P/N C0170-00020.

you won't know thats its ok with sugar until it dissolves and gets ingested by the engine...the tailpipe will have crystalline sugar on it and then the injectors will be plugged.....it will run as long as do do not turn it off and let it cool down....wait until you start it to go home....that is the real test

Under the gas cap I could have sworn a metal stopper piece was there (when inserting the gas nozzle the little metal
Clip would fold in) it's not there anymore, am I crazy?

I bought my 2nd gen locking gas cap from Walmart of all places. They have a whole section in automotive. Find the one for the Tacoma and it'll fit right on. I think I paid $13 or $14 for it. Have had it for 2+ years, no issues. Also run one on my Jeep TJ.

I saw this and had to chime in, years ago a young boy living next door decided to put sand from the side of the street in my gas tank, and the wife's. But I had decided years before that, it was a good idea to at least slow down gas thieves, and have locking gas caps. We both found sand there the next fill up, and the next day in the mail box. 21yrs later he bought that house from me when I moved here, the world can be crazy.

When I got my taco, I checked, and the locking cap from my silverado fit, auto zone.

Hope you get this worked out and all's OK.
