Any FAQ with guidance for TPMS, lug nuts, & general swapability re: take-offs across model years?

I've yet to find a nice FAQ or guide for compatibility of OEM wheel take-offs from various generation Tacomas, FJCruisers, and 4Runners regarding TPMS, lug nuts, wheel bolt circle/offsets, etc.

Does anyone know of any such FAQ before I start yet another thread about TPMS take-off swaps as I seek to replace my 16" steelies on my 2012 access cab 4wd with 16" or 17" alloy take-offs, hopefully without having to buy new TPMS sensors since most take-offs come w/o TPMS sensors & lug nuts? :)

Or, are there any general rules that can easily be shared or confirmed? For instance, I believe from what I've read in this forum that:

    1) Any 3rd gen Tacoma TPMS sensors (for any 3rd gen OEM wheel) will not work with my 2nd gen 2012 Tacoma. So any 3rd gen 16" or 17" alloy take-offs will require buying TPMS sensors that are different than those that would come with 3rd generation Tacoma wheels.

    2) Any 17" wheel will not be able to accept my 16" wheel TPMS, even if there was a 17" steel wheel.

    3) TPMS sensors for steel wheels do not fit onto alloy wheels. Any alloy Toyota take-off wheel from any Toyota truck from any year will require new TPMS sensors than what's currently in my truck's 16" steelies.

    4) I'd need different lugnuts for alloy wheels than those that are on my 2012 w/16" steelies. And -- All Toyota OEM 16"/17" wheels use the same lugnuts.

    5) Any 16"/17" 6-bolt pattern Toyota truck wheel will work on my 2012 that came w/16" steelies. Just that the speedo may be off slightly.

    6) As an extension of question #1 where 3rd gen Taco TPMS sensors would not work with my 2012 Taco, are there any rules of thumb for drop-in compatibility for 4Runner & FJCruiser wheels (and their TPMS sensors) such that their TPMS sensors would work w/o issue for a 2nd gen Taco?

    7) If I'm forced to buy new or used TPMS sensors and wish to go outside of the dealer, then is there a guide for what TPMS sensor to buy for a given wheel? This link from titan tpms lists many for my truck but w/o guidance as to wheel size & type (alloy vs. steel).
    http://titantpms.ecomm-nav.com/nav/Year-2012--Make-Toyota--Model-Tacoma--Type-TPMS

    In summary, it sounds like:
    a) no matter what I need new TPMS sensors different than those in my 16" steelies to go to an alloy wheel

    b) any 2nd gen Tacoma alloy take-off coming with original TPMS sensors will work on my 2012 2nd gen

    c) TBD certain generation FJCruisers & 4Runner alloy take-offs arriving with original TPMS sensors will work drop-in with my 2012 2nd gen.

    Many thanks, Andy

Timely thread, @Yinzer, as I am looking at swapping the OEM steel wheels on my '12 4x4 to something different.

I really like the look of the 3rd Gen Offroad wheels, so I guess I need to find a set without TPMS mounted.
(Hell, I'm not even sure my Steelies have TPMS... I guess if they didn't, the alarm and light would let me know)

I guess the compatibility issue is why most people don't even mount the sensors-- Almost all used wheels I see FS have none. I'd like to have a functioning TPMS but not sure I'm willing to go thru the hassle.
Now, I'll get out of the way and let the more knowledgeable TW members chime in with their expertise.
