    Hey all,

I am getting my vehicle repaired and I was told I need a new frame due to Toyota not recommending any welding on the frame for repairs. This sounds correct to me since I use to do design hy-rail gear. Almost all manufactures today for current vehicles do not allow you to weld on the frames unless it is in a specific location for a specific application. This is due to the frames being either being cold rolled or having a stress relief done after welding.

Does anyone know what Toyota's actual recommendation is on this for a 2nd gen Tacoma. I use to have access to body builder manuals that would state these but I do not have this for Toyota. I need it because a new body shop is saying they believe its BS which I am not sure I agree with but I would need to see what Toyota actually says about this.

These trucks are too expensive to weaken the frames.

I have no answer for what toyota says about welding on the frame. I will say if Toyota approves a new frame for you, that's the way to go.

Toyota wants to play it safe. With the right repair design and a quality welder, the frame could even be better than new. Lots of people weld on their frames to install sliders, box the frame, gussets for rock hopping .. but yeah if Toyota says "new frame" then go that route.
