I recently picked up a 2014 Tacoma and started noticing a pop when I go over bumps. Common, I know. I've searched the threads for weeks, and I'm stumped.

    Truck:
    2014 Tacoma
    TRD OR Auto
    14,000 odo
    Truck is completely stock

Pop is noticed at the front left (drivers side) and it's noticeable when the tire drops, not on the bump up. I can only hear it from the inside of the cab, near the foot rest. I can recreate it on driving over 2x4's and I've tried to listen outside the truck (while someone drives it), but I think it's too quiet, given the engine noise, so I can't hear it.

I've placed the truck on ramps and shook everything I could touch, including the sway bars. Can't recreate the sound when the truck is static.

I jacked it up, took the tire off to get a better look behind and still couldn't find anything.

I tried shaking the truck back and forth. Can't recreate the sound.

Took off the skids. No change.

I've tried to check everything near the floor and behind the dash, but nothing recreates the sound.

It happens when the tire drops or accelerates downward
It's driving me crazy. Here's the popping sound. You can hear it around the 1 sec. mark.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

thats a gnarly one, are you out of warranty? 14k on a 2014 may still be good?

Typically nothing would be worn at 14k, rather it would be defective or loose causing this.

My first suspect is loose control arm eccentrics, the big 24mm bolts that hold the control arm in place.

Next suspect is the strut itself. I would flip them left to right and see if the noise moves with it. Lots of work though.

Thanks Klevbot and Bishop84. I have an appointment with my mechanic this coming Friday and I'll update after that.

I checked on the warranty and I'm passed my 3 years unfortunately. At 14K, I wasn't expecting any signs of wear either and I'm just worried that my mechanic won't find anything. I brought my truck to him earlier, recreated the sound with him, but couldn't locate it. Granted I didn't have an appointment with him and he just performed a cursory look.

As mentioned earlier, the sound comes out when the wheel drops, whether it be a divot in the road or the backside of a bump. The sound appears when the load is taken off of the spring and the tire sort of freefalls for that split second, if that makes any sense. I'm not too keen on all of the suspension components at work to figure out the possible areas the sound could come from.

    Update:
I brought it in to my local mechanic and he narrowed it down to the noise coming from the floor, drivers side, by the foot rest. He determined it wasn't suspension or coming from the engine (i.e. engine mounts) or something loose in the cab. He removed the frame bolt beneath the mat to see if that made the difference. It didn't, the noise still happened without the bolt.

My mechanic doesn't know. He believes it's something possibly with the body, but everything felt solid to him. I'm trying to schedule an appointment with a body shop now. This is driving me nuts.

    Update:
I brought my truck to two different mechanics so far. Both have basically said they don't know what it is. The first one used the chassis ear and determined that it was NOT suspension related. I asked about the engine mounts and he said no. Using the chassis ear, he narrowed it down to the floor area, near the body mount. That's where the sound was loudest from the chassis ear.

He took out the body mount bolt, but sound didn't go away. Re-tightened and still no change. Both mechanics checked everything they could ensuring everything was tight. Couldn't find anything loose.

My last effort is to try and replace the body mount. The sound seems like it's emanating from there. My mechanic mentioned that even with the bolt removed, the other bolts and body mounts were still holding that particular mount in place. Interestingly enough, when he called Toyota to order the body mount, it was in stock. He said items aren't normally in stock unless there's a common problem out there.

Searching other threads for popping sounds + body mount, I've come across a couple threads where their popping was resolved by the body mount replacement. Even on another 2014 Tacoma, which I still think is new.

Unfortunately, I'm going to need to wait another week for my body mount replacement.

Beyond this, I don't know what the $%&@ it is and it'll likely continue to bother me. It could be sheet metal bending, but I wouldn't necessarily be able to see that.

Any other thoughts you guys have would be appreciated. Thanks.

Body mount replaced and no popping so far. The body mount removed looked to be in good condition. My mechanic mentioned the same. This has been really odd for me, but so far so good. Hopefully this helps someone out there.
