I installed an Old Man Emu Lift kit on it awhile ago (885 Coils, Top Plate spacer and Nitro Sport Shocks) and after a few months developed a popping noise when hitting bumps or changing directions from reverse to forward or forward to reverse. Ended up tearing back apart and found that the shaft of the strut was actually rubbing on the Strut mount. (See photos)

Ended up getting new struts because of the damage to the shaft, and replace the entire strut mount top hat with KYB SM5640 - Mount Kit. (only reused the coil springs)

Reassembly went smooth and after the first time and the second time i took it in and had a full alignment done on the truck.

Seemed perfect for about 2,000 miles but not the popping noise is back and worse than it has ever been before.

Any clues on what the hell is going on. I tripled checked on the forms to make sure i assembled all the bushings and washers as per the instructions. Both sides showed the same wear and rubbing.

    Part Number:OME-TAK-90021-885-TOP-DR-AL (lift kit)
    Strut Bushing: KYB SM5640

Original install when problem first was noticed

note wheel spacers were added after the first round of popping noise was corrected.

I had my partner look at it, but he is just about as clueless as me.

Unfortunately if you do a search about this clunk issue using OME stuff, this is a very common problem that some have never gotten rid of. I have the 887's on 5100's and after a few years of re torquing etc etc etc I still have it over certain bumps with the wheels turned.

@chrisknarr I'm pretty sure I've been having the same issue. I get popping noises while turning hard, either in reverse or forward. Some bumps do it too. I can almost feel the tension then it pops and is fine. Thanks for the post, hopefully we can get something figured out. This will be a good place for me to start looking anyway. If I don't have any luck I might try the stealership... I'll keep everyone posted on the results/prices
