Hmmm... good idea but would scratch the deck. That on a piece of cardboard maybe. Or I could just stop being a cheapass and get some highly rated thing on Mothership Amazon.

LOL. I have looked at them as I cook on a wood deck also. But the reviews are normally not so great on grilling mats. And your blocking air under them it is shady enough on my deck as it is so always fighting mildew and growth. My solution will be to build it out of IPE wood when I replace it. In the meantime have thought about backerboard with edges framed on wheels, etc. to be fireproof you need to elevate it off the deck away from the wood. But space is limited out there with 3 Webers and all the other stuff. I normally grill or smoke at least every other day and am very careful. And never leave a fire unattended or do overnight cooks on the smoker.

With the WSM I have the ATC so 2 of 3 bottom vents are closed and the third is secured to only allow positive air in and has a hose hooked up to it. No hot coals can come out the bottom. I don't use the chimney starter for it I always place a fire starter cube in the coals and light if from there. If I didn't have the ATC I would use the metal water heater pan trick for safety.

The chimney starter scares me the most and I always double check after dumping it in the kettle sometimes coals like to catch inside it and come out when your not looking. With the kettle I am very careful and use it a lot, more than the WSM or Gasser. But if I was going to get a mat for the deck it would be for it. Like I said most of the reviews of grilling mats are pretty poor. The one I would consider if I was going to get for protection from grease, etc. would be this one https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00XUUOA1W/ref=dp_sp_crr_shared?psc=1 but I have no personal experience with it. It is one of the few that has good reviews but it still isn't fire proof.

And that is what I keep coming back to. But to really be effective it should be elevated off the deck. And I have all that white chit to shovel 6 months of the years so would have to protect the edges so I don't ding it up. I think the backer board is the best solution

Hmmm. Looked at the one you linked to and a few others. I guess what I had in mind doesn't exist, at least not on Amazon. I'm thinking the backerboard may be the way to go after all, need to get creative.

That stuff was worse than Smirnoff Ice. I remember this one time, a couple of us gave a bum enough money to get us a case of Smirnoff Ice and a tall can for himself. That asshole came out with a case of Zima and his tall can and said it is like the same thing. Hard to remember, but I doubt we finished that stuff.

Nice. figured you'd get full price if you waited out the low ballers. That's why I didn't bother pestering you  But today was thinking, screw it. Called Target and walmart and made them search their systems and everyone is out. The guy with the red one in san antonio you sent me just won't answer me :notsure: It shows he read my msgs but never a response. still listed for sale, so I tried again:fingerscrossed:

Noice, will try. No idea why I haven't done those already. You use the regular or spicy rub? Estimate on how much rub per thigh? Do you flip halfway?

Yea I saw that red one in San Antonio still listed.

You called target and Walmart looking for a 22" blue or just any 22"?

    Blue you won't find anywhere.

Crimson red I think ace hardware or abt can still ship you one
