I'm going backpacking this weekend and taking my tenkara. Trying to think of the essentials I need, so far I thinking a 10' line, some 5x and 6x tippet, nippers, forceps (maybe taking my small leather man so I'd leave forceps in this case), small tin homemade fly box, floatant and maybe some split shot. Trying to keep it light and simple as possible. Sound like everything I need?

The same shit everyone else has.
I didn't even get my hunting license and archery starts I a few weeks here in PA.

I finally put up my trail cams the other day.

I'd rather fish than hunt I think.... But I do enjoy small game hunting a lot. I think because it's a lot like fishing, it gives me an excuse to walk around in the woods all day.

I'm all about some deer hunting. Nothing like our smarting one of the most alert animals in the woods. I don't care if it's a monster buck or just a doe. A lot of times I'll just sit there and watch them anyway. I used to want to shoot EVERYTHING. Now it's just about the fact that I'm there and they have no idea...

    Pa deer aren't that smart.

We sit in the same blinds on the same hill sides on my grandparents property and they move down the same paths and get shot in the same spots.

Last year, 3 were killed within 10 feet of each other on different days during rifle season. One on the opening day, one 3 days later, and one on the last day. All right before dark from the same blind. All smaller does. It's almost predictable. They come down out of the woods, into the field every evening right before dark.

The big bucks are another story. They'll turn into ghosts here in another month. I don't hunt antlers, I hunt meat so it doesn't upset me when they disappear.

I plan on hunting archery this year.. I tell me self that every year, but never do though. I wouldn't mind getting a chance to shoot the big 10pt I've been seeing.

I feel the same way about small game hunting as you do about deer hunting.

I was going to do the same thing but I may hold off because of this rain. Perhaps a lightweight net?
Do you take a water filtration pump with you backpacking? If so what kind do you use?

@SAB_0010 I've been using the RAPIDPURE INTREPID WATER BOTTLE W/ PIONEER PURIFIER for a few trips this summer but I picked up the KATADYN BEFREE MICROFILTER last weekend and it worked well on the river. Nice and light!

Couple photos from this past weekend. Touched a bull trout but didn't hook up. Rainbows were fairly small this trip but still enjoyable on the 3wt glass rod.

I'm heading back out to the same river this weekend at least once, if not twice. Then off to Calgary for another trip fishing for multiple species. Anyone else got some trips plans in the next few weeks?

I normally use a Sawyer Squeeze but I also have a MSR Hyperflow that I might bring since it's easier to use in running water

I was looking at the Katadyn hiker pro pump filter but those squeeze filters look like they'd work too. I'd just worry about the plastic membrane material getting punctured on a trip, but they are a lot more compact than pumps.

I have many impromptu trips planned. I've been winging it most weekend and it's been working. I'd like to head to the middle of PA - Bellfonte / State College area soon and chase some prespawn browns on some of the famous limestoners. Ive been trying to plan another camping weekend but my buddy is a twat and always makes up excuses. I need to find a new fishin partner / friends who are obsessed with fly fishing like I am.

I was there the beginning of August. Beautiful area. I fished a few upper tribs, FULL of fish. I fished the lower too, VERY hard wading. I took the skunk on the lower. I really wanna get back down there and fish the upper once everything cools off. It was warm and low when I was there

For what it's worth, I used the Sawyer for over a month on the great divide mountain bike route last year and it's also seen a lot of use doing week long section hikes on the AT. It's always worked wonderfully and can't beat the cost. Ditch the bag that comes with it and get a platypus or evernew version. I use a 1.5 liter for my dirty water bag and a 1 liter for my filtered water. When they're empty they collapse down and weigh next to nothing.

I'm in the same boat. Only lived here a year and haven't met anyone else to fish with. It's been a huge learning curve coming from inshore saltwater to creeks and rivers. Smallmouth fishing is fun as hell from a kayak though, and hoping to chase stripers if I ever get the timing right. I did manage to hit the shad run this year and had a blast catching them on my 4 wt

i have used both a katadyn and a MSR in the past. The katadyn had better taste but took longer the msr was quick in comparison and didnt take as much work to prime
