    1st gen are eye to eye vs 2nd and 3rd gen which are eye to stem. 2nd gen and 3rd gen are interchangeable but nothing from a 2nd or 3rd gen will fit a 1st.

    I'm pretty sure being that the 5100 line is OE replacement they're valved for a specific application. 5125 is (from what I understand) more of a universal shock where you pick the correct eye to stem mount and the length which means the valving isn't Tacoma specific.
