I'm here waiting for my 10k service and I asked the service advisor to change the blinker from 3 to 5 blinks. He said they charge $125 to make any option changes in techstream.

Is this normal? I can understand paying but $125 is well over the cost of an hour of labor so it seemed quite high to me.

    Mine did it for free.
I'd try another dealer.. or just buy the Carista Bluetooth part and do it yourself for cheaper!

I think some dealers have a training class for their service writers where they are taught to go glassy eyed and deaf when they hear "techstream".

Yeah, dealer sucks in your case - but I have had similar experiences. Carista is a good cheap investment though.... not only can you change things like # of blinks for blinkers, seatbelt chimes, how and when your doors lock and unload, etc., but it's also a decent bluetooth scanner if you are interested in data logging. The Torque (Andriod) and Fusion (iOS) apps both connect with the Carista device easily and you can see some important info like trans temp, lambda, catalytic temp, diff temps, and with a $9.99 add-on (for fusion at least) you can download all of the proprietary Toyota PIDs that will let you read all of the sensor data coming from your truck. Nice to see how driving habits, fuel, conditions affect your truck and if you ever need to self-diagnose some things (b/c your dealer may be useless like mine is...) it's invaluable.

This - more expensive and feature rich (complicated) but really gives you the same things Toyota uses when they check all those "multi-point inspection boxes" They actually physically inspect very little - just hook up to Techstream and call it a day...

yeah god forbid they just help a paying customer who likely
just dropped 40k on the truck there as well. Those little things
go a long way with most and keep them loyal to the dealer.

Yeah... that's just wrong. My dealer did that with my service. Blinker to 5 and turn off seat belt warning sound

I asked the service adviser at Weiss Toyota here in St. Louis, did it for free and would have changed anything else for free. Go to another dealer.
