Let me just say, I am new to TW, and I really wish I had explored it prior to my recent purtchase of my 2014 Tacoma PreRunner DC...

When buying my truck, I opted out of getting either of the TRD packages. I went 2WD b/c I felt I would rarely ever need it and wanted to save some $$ (it snowed like hell two days after of course).

Did I make a mistake not getting TRD Sport Package?

Honestly, the thing I am most pissed about is not having the mean-ass hood scoop and the color-keyed wrap-around, bumper, and mirrors...

Has anyone been in my situation in the past and made some mods to accommodate?

Somebody make me feel better about my jewish instincts to always say "Nah, I won't be needing that..."

I'd say no. If I had known that I was going to change out everything on my truck, I wouldn't have got the sport. I got a great deal on my truck but still wasted money on it.

This is true. SR5 4x4 Manual trans, tow package. That's it nothing extra.
    Instead got this.....

TRD SPORT 28012 out the door. Should've got basics only. BUT manual drive for, sure.

I got a SR5 double cab with an appearance package over the TRD Sport. I don't like the hood scoop, I hate fake scoops on cars, if it's there it needs to serve a purpose other than blocking my vision. I do wish I had the TRD seats though.

My old supervisor said the trd package was a waste of money he wishes he saved a few bucks not getting it. I say you are fine without it.

I'd say it just depends how much you want to mod yourself. You can make your truck have all the features of the sport or off-road if not more suited to exactly what you want. But that takes time and can be a bit funky at time. Buying the packages might get you something you don't care about but you get lots of stuff from the factory.

the scoop looks good, and the guy that put the rigid industries SR 10 inch light bar in there is awesome.

Knowing what I do now, I would have gotten the SR5 4x4 and then modded the hell out of it just like I have my truck. I got a TRD Offroad and wish I'd saved the money and went with a base model truck and then ARB Lockers, Gears, and the rest of my mods. Would have saved me a bundle.

    I did same thing. I bouht a 2015 Tacoma prerunner sr5 (2wd) to save $$$.
Drive it 2 years and put 50,000 miles on it. Traded it on a 2017 Trd sport. . I miss my prerunner. Maybe the 2018 won't be a piece of crap! Zero help from Toyota on the garbage transmission. The howling sound is horrible and ghetto don't have a fix. Trade it on 2018/19 Tacoma and score a Huge trade in value. I got $21k for trade . I bought it for $24k got the 17 Trd $24k out the door using the trade

IMG_1588.jpg detailed it before trade in on 2017
    IMG_0033.jpgthe day I bought the 2015 prerunner
IMG_1912.jpgThe dealer selling my truck. The used car manager just put it in the used car showroom 2 days after I detailed the hell out of it. ! Zero dents, zero scratches!

    Yep, sorry El-Cheapo!

I love my All Wheel Drive Honda CRV for winter storms, but will settle for 4X4 when I finally get a Taco.

While my Trd was in service again today they gave me a loaner ..SR5 4cyl 4x4

Let's just say it's a gutless turd! It handled better at hwy speeds but it didn't want to get there. Had the foot in the floor board. Not use to the 4cyl engine. I've had a v6 or v8 since 1995 when I sold my 89 Toyota 4x2. The red panels in the interior not my thing either! I rather spend the extra $2,500 to buy the Trd sport. I wonder if they would notice the front grill being switched out for the one on my Trd sport?
