Mine was just a little over a month from the time it was approved for replacement, until the new frame arrived. This was earlier this summer, and the truck is a first gen, DC. I understand that the 2nd gens are running much longer.

Where are you located? Seems to vary depending on state, the states that see a lot of rust and are considered "cold weather states" under the frame rust program seem to be a lot faster at doing frame swap work than states that aren't.

my frame on my 2002 over the wheel humps is completely gone! I just noticed this monday. I have called toyota and there is not frame recall on my truck. Is there anything i can do? the only recall they show is for the spare tire carrier. Sucks because my truck is in perfect shape and only has 160k miles on her :(

I hear some people are still getting this fixed but customer care said nope!

    Thanks for your time!

In order to qualify for the frame replacement warranty, you had to get your frame inspected and coated by Toyota prior to the 2011 deadline. If your truck wasn't inspected/coated prior to then, then there's no warranty on your frame. Even then, the warranty was only for 15 years from the in-service date of your truck, so a 2002 frame would only be warrantied through 2017.

Also the program only applied for trucks registered in certain "cold weather states", not sure what they were but I'm fairly certain they were mostly East coast states.

This is correct. There is no recall on the frames of first gen Tacomas. There is an extended warranty. If you ask about a recall they'll tell you that there isn't one. Ask about the warranty.

This is almost correct, but not quite (based on my conversations with Toyota). The warranty applies to all of the trucks no matter where they live. There are, however, additional requirements for trucks in the 20 "cold weather states". Those additional requirements are the inspection and coating that you mentioned.

Edit: For completeness, here are the states:
"The 20 states affected include (in alphabetical order): Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Virginia, Vermont, Wisconsin and West Virginia. In addition, the District of Columbia is also included."

In my area of Texas a dealer was working on a frame swap for 10 months. They'll probably never do another on a first gen.

Seems like some dealers have more pull then others

Might be based on the year sales volume .

You have a loner, whatever happens to the loaner just ends up making your insurance pay for it. They just recommend you buy a new truck. Hold out and see what happens.

I have to wonder if the frame is not the only thing in bad shape.

Who knows why the last owner did not have the frame done then sell the truck ??

Since all dealers are Independent who knows how many frames they are waiting on ??

Do they have a team that can can do these swaps or just give it to the lot person to do around there other duties

I have a similar issue (another thread) - my Carfax doesn't show any coatings though it does show numerous inspections by Toyota up through last year. I'm in Virginia (in the cold state list), though I drove it to California and left it with my brother for restoration and upgrade work. Wondering if it's possible to get the frame replaced out in California whiles it's there - assuming Toyota will even cover it under warranty.

Toyota knows exactly how many frames each dealer is waiting on, since every approval goes through a group at HQ set up to deal with the frame issues. What we don't know is how they are allocated. Some people wait 8 months, and others get them in a few weeks.

I wonder if it has to do with how they are shipped. Like if they can fit 10 frames on a truck and they have a truck with 8 frames going to the Syracuse area and they throw on 2 more to fill out the load even though the last 2 were new orders.

Or maybe they make double cab frames for a month, then standard cab frames for a month, etc.

Perhaps the dealers that do the most frame swaps get dibs in order to knock out as many as possible.

I think it's the shipping thing, though. I was told 5 to 8 months for mine and it arrived in only 4 weeks and the dealer was surprised as hell when it showed up.

I talked to 2 dealers and they both told me the same thing - They use a dedicated team with one of their top techs and a promising newer one. The senior person directs the work to get it done fast and right, while the new one gains experience.

The dealer gets paid for a set number of hours and every hour less than that is pure profit. On the other hand, they don't want the job done slapdash 'cuz the truck will come back and they will have to spend time fixing it without additional reimbursement. I've heard that they get paid for 2 guys for a week and that some dealers can get it done in 2 days. Mine took 3 days.

I assume the lot person did the detailing when the swap was complete. And he did a helluva nice job.
