Choosing suspension shouldn't be this hard

    Hey everyone,

(My apologies in advance as this might be a long post)

Yes yes I know, another thread about what suspension someone should purchase, but I am really lost and need some help.

I am looking to replace the stock suspension on my 2013 DCLB and have no idea what route I should take.

My stock suspension is nearing the end of its life span due to over loading by the previous owner and I am not a huge fan of the spacer / block kit currently installed, so I would like to get those out of the truck while maintaining a decent lift from the new suspension set up.

Fortunately, the sway bar relocated and differential drops have already been installed along side the spacer. so I don't need to worry about that.

    I am looking for:
    - Leafs,
    - Front Shocks,
    - Front Coils,
    - Rear Shocks,
    - Approx. 3" of Lift

Budget: ~2000 CAD installed, but I am willing to be flexible on budget if needed and within reason. Long Travel Kings or Icon Stage 6 is not happening unfortunately.

    My Use:
    - Light Off-roading, i.e. Forestry roads, back country gravel roads, some mud / dirt, snow (my street can pile up with a couple feet pretty quickly), camping. Nothing too extreme.

    - Hauling, kayaks, paddle boards, bikes, camping gear, etc.

    Tires:
    - Currently have BFG KO2 A/T 265/75/R16

    Future:
    - Would like to have a rack and roof top tent safely without too much settling (probably 2 years out).
    - Some lights, and maybe a aluminium or steel bumper at some point (will change out coils when that time comes).

Now my questions are what do I buy and why?

The Bilstein 5100s with 855 or 887 coils (?) seem to be a good option for me combined with the Dakar Regular leafs.

Though sticking with OME for all my suspension parts seems like it may also be a good idea - I have heard they have a pretty decent warranty and good customer support.
Maybe something along the lines of this kit with leafs, 885 coils, and the rear shock stone guards?

Are the top plate spacers something that I should be interested in?

I am open to other options, maybe one of the more affordable Icon suspension systems (stage 1 or 2 with Dakkars for leafs?), or either of the Toytec Boss kits

Whatever you decide on, I'd suggest you buy from headstrong offroad. They are a vendor on here and very helpful, fast, free shipping. I had a toytec lift with eibachs and Bilstein and do not think highly of toytec customer service.

Thank you for the recommendation! I will have to speak with headstrong about shipping to Canada, as I imagine that could get fairly pricing, not to mention boarder duty :(

I think it's a Tacoma, let me go check again...
*Cracks knuckles* Where do I begin?
I have the ICON stage 1 and I love it. I'm running blocks in the rear but I'm gonna replace those with springs soon.
Btw be sure to get some new UCA's, it'll help with the off roading quite a bit. If you have any questions PM and I'll give you my email.

I'm running into the same problem as OP with similar requirements (I'll install myself though), I would like to mix/match though, thinking Bilstein 6112's, 5160's & Dakars in the rear.

Does anyone have insight what kind of off & on-road feel a setup like this would have compared to the full OME nitrocharger/Dakar kit?

No attempt to threadjack here, just see an important question being asked & wanted to weigh in.
