So much good info in this thread but has anyone used this with a bike hitch rack? It looks like it's possible theoretically but I'm not sure how long the bike rack shaft has to be to clear a mounted 275 tire. Any help is much appreciated!

Wish I had an answer for you but my bike is on a special mount off the side of my truck

I've read through this thread but I am still a little overwhelmed with the options. What is the preferred model for use with a Tacoma? Want something that preserves the backup camera as much as possible, while still being low profile? Not super concerned with carrying Rotopax

With either the hitchgate solo, or the solo high clearance you will still have to relocate the backup camera as the spare tire get in the way of it, but wilco sells an accessory to do that i believe. It just involves a little wiring. @Unchained 5150 relocated his, i do believe. And also id recommend the hitchgate solo high clearance for the tacomas. Both work, but i just prefer one that sits up about 4 inches higher, then again, to each is own but the high clearance one would prevent any loss of departure angle. Also.. im not entirely sure what you mean by low profile. Are you talking about keeping the center of gravity of the truck as low as possible?

As previously stated from @rjbiii you will lose the back Up camera with any of the Hitchgates. I relocated mine with the Pelfreybilt camera relocate mount to s spot on the Hitchgate. I would always get the Hitchgate Solo High Clearnce as it stays level with the rear bumper and doesn't hang down to possibly get hit when wheeling.

Thanks guys - what is the point of the Toyota model Hitchgate, and why does it cost a few hundred more?

I just picked up a Hitchgate Solo but it didn't come with a hitchin. What size do I need for a standard Tacoma hitch?

Heres the hitch pin that ive been running with mine. This is the one youll need if you have the oem tow package receiver hitch since the sides are a bit thicker than the standard two inch hitch

    Hitch pin, maybe?

Any standard pin will work, from any store. Length is the only variable.

I live in New England and after only 1 year mine was frozen and I had to use a torch to cut it off. I don't run one, I just keep it torqued to 100 and check it every month

Remember mine James it froze and had to be cut off. I don't recommend a locking version

Me either! I think mine froze before yours IIRC. Seems like I remember telling you I had to break mine with a BFH and crowbar.

    Never again.
