Hunkering down here in the Capital City. Talked with the local good old boys and we're getting together this week to take inventory on Chainsaws, Trucks, and equipment to clear the roads and deliver supplies, god forbid. Anyone one on here who lives in Tallahassee PM me if you want to help out. Pray for the Sunshine State and the Islands.

Update on the above. Had an afternoon T storm (normal) delay us and dump some water. Lake seemed higher than it should have been for the rain amount. Buddy came around in his paddle boat. We had to drag it on the dock and drain
the water trapped between the hulls (he'd not had it secured/dry for a couple of weeks) which was almost a hernia exercise in itself.

Once we got over to the drain outlet (42") water was flowing, but slow. In front of the pipe in the lake was a large 'papyrus island', a chuck of papyrus, a non native invasive plant, that had broken off from one of the other houses shoreline a few days ago. Hooked a line to it and started peddling. Surface current picked up right away, and tried to hold us steady.

30 minutes later the two old men had made it the 100 yards to my dock, island in tow. As we broke it up and drug it into the yard to dry, we figured close to 600# of water and muck. No wonder we struggled to tow! (Yea, I'm 3rd gen with 9 grands, so I have low torque too)

In this 94/90 heat/humidity I felt a little woozy, and definitely out of breath. Grateful to have a pool to sit in and return core temp and pulse to normal.

Tomorrow we'll hack it up and to the street for Friday trash pickup.

Good news is that 47 homes will be at a little less risk of flooding due to a simple clogged drain. Based on my experience living here, we can handle about 12-14" in 3-4 hours with no damage IF the tide cooperates.

Next up, batteries/lantern checks and placement, hand crank radio tested.

For Pinellas county, the evac zones based on storm surge. The top of zone E is 35'. Makes a nice graphic.

I live in a zone C. Almost D. As in two houses away is the edge of D.

There is about 1/2 the county that is no evac due to being above 35'.

Again, this is storm surge, not wind, not rainfall flooding. Since we are only about 6-7 miles wide (between the bay and gulf) at the widest point, and less at most points, surge matters.

House is at 12'. On a tidal river, large freshwater reservoir 1 mile upstream (east), Tampa Bay to the west. This damn thing needs to take a hard right, NOW!

Not sure if this will be too relevant, but this is the storm surge amounts the National Hurricane Center is predicting for the islands...
Northern Leeward Islands...7 to 11 ft
Turks and Caicos Islands...15 to 20 ft
    Southeastern Bahamas...15 to 20 ft
Northern coast of the Dominican Republic...3 to 5 ft
Northern coast of Haiti and the Gulf of Gonave...1 to 3 ft
They are also showing a theoretical possibility for 210 MPH winds in the Florida Straits...

Hmm we're at 13 feet elevation, not in a flood zone (but do have flood insurance). About 3-4 miles inland from the coast directly east of lake O.

Been thru Wilma, Frances, Jeanne, and a few others so anxious to see what silly Irma does in the next 48 hrs.
