What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

pretty much. Wasn't worth cutting the holes in the clock face. Cheap and fits perfect.

 

Cutting holes didn't turn out very clean... maybe one day I'll redo it.

 

Anyone know of a company that still makes windshield mounts for a straight bar?

Thanks, I have some one the devil horn Toyota logo ones that I made awhile back but I don't have access to a press to bend them nor the how to on where they should be bent

 

Oh oh. Getting a whining noise up front when turning the wheels at low speeds. Thats a new OEM rack.

I had Rotary Cuff surgery four weeks ago, so instead of not going I got a driver, she can drive anything.

It's probably the power steering pump, far more likely to whine due to cavitation or bad bearings. Try cleaning the reservoir and screen, then flush the system with ATF.

 

Finally got around to pulling my steering column and weld the slip yoke. Wow a very noticeable difference and easy to do.

2004 Tundra brake upgrade.

Replaced the front rotors, calipers, pads, and brake lines. This was well worth the time and money, it will stop on a dime and give you 9 cents change. We also added 1.5" wheel spacers- red thread locker, 83 ft-lbs of torque, drove 100 miles, and re-torqued the lugs.

I'll add a few photos...the pictures removing wheel, then the stock '02 Taco rotor/caliper/pads, next the difference in the Taco vs '04 Tundra rotor(13WL), then new Tundra rotor installed, next new caliper, last pic all installed. The two 17mm caliper bolts are at 90 ft-lbs, banjo bolt 11 ft-lbs(be careful with the banjo, it will and did break off. so I had to back off on the torque), spacer & lug nuts 83 ft-lbs. We installed "Wheeler Tacoma brake lines" they'll bolt straight up (no drilling required), bleed the lines(10mm & 8mm) (this is also a good time to flush)- start at the rear passenger, then rear drivers, next front passenger, then last front drivers. Keep the DOT3 brake fluid reservoir full. Lay a paper towel under the bleeder or connect a hose on the bleeder, also buy some bleeder dust caps to keep mud/dirt/grim/salt out of the orifice. You'll also need to bend the dust cover back away from the rotor & calipers.

Tools needed: socket & wrench (mm)- 8, 10, 14, 17, 19, 21; paper towels, alligator nose vise grips to clamp off the brake line, rubber hammer, sand paper or wire brush, brake cleaner, oil dry, breaker bar(caliper bolts are @ 90ft-lbs and can be tough to break loose), red thread locker, 10 mm brake line wrench(important-these little brake line fittings are also very easy to round off the shoulders). This project is well worth the time, money and upgrade time. This '02 Tacoma will flat out stop in a hurry. We bought '04 Tacoma 17" rims from Craigslist and are now saving for mud tires.

Someone on here said they bought this kit and it was all good but the company sent the brake pads for the 199mm Calipers instead of the 231mm Calipers that come with the kit. I can't find the exact post but the guy was selling the smaller brake pads in the 1st gen section about a week ago. They ended up sending him the right pads but he had to wait a few days and couldn't do the swap right away.

 

Just did my wheel bearings 2 weeks ago. Ill check the ps fluid

 

Ps fluid is fine. Maybe oil my balls? Uniballs that is.
