i'm far from being an expert on the topic, just talking from experience. my Valentine One has saved me many times - it lights up like a Christmas tree before the popo is even in sight, usually giving me at least a few seconds to ease off.

The last radar detector I owned was nicknamed the Diamond Shamrock detector because for some reason it went nuts any time I was near a Diamond Shamrock. I was scared that the one day I didn't slow down for a DS was the day the cops would be sitting there waiting for my ass.

    It's a fine radar detector.

Still doesn't change the physics of laser (LIDAR). What I said above applies.

Laser is line of sight, unless the LEO is hiding in a bush you'll see him quite plainly.

Without going into details here, I'll just say that I've had the opportunity to use play around with privately owned LIDAR guns.

Rocky Mountain Radar has been my go-to brand for years and their units defeat LIDAR

That action was found unconstitutional for New Orleans after hurricane katrina and they were ordered never to do it again.

This asshat governor has no respect for the constitution and rule of law.

Many moons ago, I was able to purchase the guts of a radar. All it could do was on/emit/off. No read/register capabilities. It was fun to see cars coming up on me well over the limit and flip the radar on. ;)

Back in the day I had a radar detector that worked pretty well out on the highway, but it was useless in the city because it would trigger on every automatic door opener. Then I discovered another fool proof technology to avoid speeding tickets. It seems that there is this dial on every car's dashboard that has numbers on it. And, if you match the number on the dial to the number posted on the side of the road, the cops don't bother you. I haven't gotten a speeding ticket since.
