    I'm horrible with trail apps. I'm the guy that's looking at google maps trying to find the correct turn. I need a lesson on what the best apps are for trails, and how to use them.

    i don't have the best out there but its worked for so far. I have Locus Maps on my android and California trail maps on my Garmin.

    i'm going to look into that 100k maps. I'm going to need to replace the Garmin soon, fakin touch screen is on the fritz and won't hold the calibrations.

    I use an Ipad Mini that has GPS. you do not need to have service for it. Most of these new apps let you load up trails set up by other people via GPX, or make your own trail on your ipad or other ways.

    Gaia GPS on an old iPhone 5 (no service) on airplane mode. D'load the maps of the area you'll be in ahead of time on wifi. Works absolutely perfect.
