I am the only owner of a 2000 Tacoma 6cyl TRD 4x4 overdrive automatic.
The best vehicle I have ever owned until 3 yrs ago. That's when I had my first surge at a stop sign. The engine went to 4000 rpms. I held the brake down and put it in neutral . This solved my problem as the truck went back to idle and I drove away.Up until this year there were only a few more scary moments until this year. It did the same thing several times.Since I am a novice at engine repair I relied on the dealer. The first trip they insured me that it was fixed-Throttle body cleaning and full induction cleaning. It only took a few weeks when it started again including once in reverse.--They did a complete power transmission flush.Reverse problem again.I'm probably in the same boat as some of you. Do I spend a lot of money to try and fix a tacoma that you love or buy something else.Oh, they want to replace skidcontrol ecu-$3000 plus.Noo Guarantee !!

    From the site above:

"One of the most common symptoms commonly associated with a problematic idle air control valve is irregular idle speed. The idle air control valve is programmed to regulate and maintain the engine idle speed at a constant rate. If the valve fails or has any issues it can cause the idle speed to be thrown off. This may result in an unusually high or low idle speed, or in some cases a surging idle speed that repeatedly climbs and falls."
