ARB Single with a tank is going to struggle more than it should.

 

Recommendation's ?

 

Run it without a tank

If you need more air, faster upgrade to a ARB Dual. I'd compare the cost of the fittings, line and tank you wanted to add and see how far away you are from a dual.

 

OK awesome thanks Ya I was planning on not running a tank originally but after looking through this thread I see a lot of rigs with the tanks so I figured I'd ask thanks again bud.

 

A tire holds more air than a reasonable air tank. I personally would run an air tank for the locker. I like the fact that the compressor can fill the tank and not turn back on all weekend (provided your system doesn't leak..much) . You don't have to run your tank at any higher pressure than the locker needs. The single ARB Compressor will handle it just fine.

I just read through most of this thread and wanted to get some advice if anyone can chime in.

I'm taking my truck into Mexico in about a month and am trying to figure out a system so I can air up my tires after driving on the beach in the middle of nowhere.

I'm thinking the Viair 400h is my best bet as it is 100%duty cycle and is within my price range. I am going to try and figure out how to mount it in the cubby bed. I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction as to what I need for wiring/fuses and any other tips for mounting this thing?

I mounted my arb single compressor in the driver side cubby. I didn't do anything special except used the bolts + reenforcement plate that came with the arb to mount it in the cubby.

As far as wiring, I went with a blue sea circuit breaker

Looks like the 400H has a max draw of 26amps so get one that is the appropriate size. Of course, you can just use a fuse but I liked the option to be able to just reset the breaker.

I used some 8gauge wire from the battery and chassis ground point back to the cubby.

Then just ran a 12-18 gauge (cant remember what wire I used, it was whatever leftover I had that was long enough) from the switch in my center console in the cab to the relay which I had installed in the cubby.

Its really straight forward. The biggest thing will be how well does the compressor fit in the cubby and how much cutting/adjusting you need to do to make it fit.

Need some opinions on this possible set up I have a

$91 viair 88p portable compressor kit (12V, 120 psi, forup to 33" tires)

viair 88p I just purchased to reinflate tiers after wheeling. I also have this ~3 gallon tank I got for free. I'm planning on installing the compressor inside the cab under the rear seats (hardwired to battery) with a 2 lines coming out, 1 going to the box near the cab with a quick connect and another going to the back bumper area also with a quick connect. The one in the box I plan on using with the tank on some mounts attached to the rail. Basically I want to be able to remove the tank when extra space is needed.
Question is, is it worth the time/trouble of installing the lines and tank?
Is there that much of a benefit running a tank? What parts would I need to make all connections?
I'm not planning on going air locker or bags.
Tank is rated for 200 psi
Viair 88p is only 1.43cfm and 120 psi.
I'm not buying a new compressor anytime soon.

 

For simply airing up you don't need a tank. If you need a source of regulated pressure then it's nice to have a tank. For some things even a 1 gal will do. Small ones can fit in the bedside void or on a frame rail. Bigger ones can occupy the spare tire location if you've gone to a size that no longer fits.

 

I don't have anything in my spare tire spot anymore. Thinking of putting two 2.5 gallon tanks under there. Anybody done that before? Looking at the 2.5 viair tanks

Shouldn't be a problem other than accessing both drain stopcocks regularly. Another choice might be a pancake tank. You'll need a heavy duty compressor to pressurize that much volume. If you don't need high pressure air you can ease the strain on the compressor by using a lower pressure switch. Last night I pulled the trigger on a tank and assorted bits including a 70-100 psi switch. Also found two 1" guages that will hopefully swap in for the 12v sockets in the center console area.

 

Pretty much any compressor can be doubled up to get more output by triggering a second relay off the switch. It would need its own wire and fuse as well. Edit- and enough juice to supply both.

 

Only reason I want two tanks is to have more volume when I install a four trumpet horn system in the future. I have an ARB twin compressor installed right now. I was planning on setting it up so that I could fill the tanks with my high powered compressor that I have in the garage and just use the ARB as a back up whenever the tanks run low

 

I'm not sure how much air is taken by a horn system so I don't even know if two tanks might be overkill
