    Hello all,

To preface, I have researched this issue and have not been able to find a good resolution to my problem. About a year ago, my Tacoma blew a head gasket, which I had replaced, the head resurfaced, and a new timing chain.

Ever since I had all of that done, the truck hasn't run quite right for me. The idle will fluctuate. Sometimes it will stay normal, others it will stay around 1500-1900 intermittently. Whenever it is at that higher idle and I turn the truck off, it gives me a really tough time getting it to start again (if I try within an hour or so of turning it off).

I normally don't have any issue while the truck is actually moving. I have replaced the IAC valve, O2 sensors, and the fuel pump, and still haven't been able to fix the issue.

Any thoughts and ideas are greatly appreciated!

    Thanks,
    Nicholas

No check engine light? A/C on or off does it effect it? Do you have a scanner to check data?

I do have a check engine light, but when I get it checked, it says to replace the catylitic converter. The A/C doesn't effect the RPM's when on or off. Also, I don't have a scanner. What info would that give me?

Alot of info. You can see the data the computer is seeing from the engine. It's really a must have for anyone to help you.
They're $20-30 on Amazon. Get one.
Do a search on here for best scanner and pick one.

Scanners, depending on the make will give various information such as O2 sensor(s) voltages, fuel trims - how much more or less fuel is being added as well as the ability scan for codes. Most scanners have more scanning capabilites than there is space for here to write about.
A scanner is a diagnostic tool, it is not an "answer" tool. A misfire that is recorded such as a P0302 is a misfire on Cylinder #2. It is up to the tech to determine what is causing the misfire, bad plug, bad plug wire, bad coil, too much or too little fuel, intake leak, mechanical problem etc.
