Hey guys, i searched high and low on google but was unable to find a definitive answer. I did the Uni-filter mod on my 2013 tacoma today as a measure of preventative maintenance and after doing so, I looked in the engine bay of my 2009 2.7L and it appeared to have a similar setup, just in a different location. Does anyone know what year they started putting these in tacomas? I know the early 2012 models were the ones that had the most problems with the valves getting stuck and causing the dreaded p2442 & p2440 codes, but im wondering if some of the earlier model trucks also had this. I plan on adding a uni-filter to my '09 4 banger and doing it to my dad's '14 4 banger as well, but im curious when they started adding this problem to the tacomas.

Just for reference, here's the Uni-filter i used.. got it on Amazon for about 13 bucks.

If this thread is useful for nothing else, at least someone else may benefit from knowing what they part they need to switch it out and have a little peace of mind. All you have to do is pop the black cover that goes over the pump, then take the black cap off that goes over the end of the pump inlet. followed by using a torq bit to take the one screw off the top of the pump. Then take the pump cover off the top and remove the foam filter from inside. Put it all back together and instead of putting the cap back on, thats where you'll put the uni-filter. Heres a pic of the one on my '13.

A big thanks to @nd4spdbh for posting the link to the filter in another thread where i originally saw it.

    No problem man!

FYI the 2.7 L has the air injector in all years of the 2nd gen, 4.0L saw the introduction of it in 2012.

Id venture to be the 2.7L in the 3rd gens still have the air injection as its roughly the same motor as well (just dual vvti vs single). The 3.5L v6 in the 3rd gen doesnt as the primary cats are like 6 in off the head of the motor and there is no exhaust manifolds just one big exhaust port.
