Desert summer camping- cover coolers with sleeping bags and blankets when not in use and ice stays all week.

We just use standard large coolers, but store them in the covered bed surrounded with sleeping bags and blankets to make the cold last for days without having to replenish ice- I imagine if we put them out on the racks like some do, we would be weekending it or buying ice every other day, especially if it's in warm weather.

Thank you. Makes camping and getting away for a weekend so much easier. The old lady and I are really enjoying it.

Hey we all start somewhere. Thanks for sharing and most important, since so many get lost in their builds, is just to get out and use their gear like you are doing.

We also have a large 8 person cabin tent but haven't used it since purchasing the trailer 4 years ago and we are looking to replace the small 2 person tent we use with a 4 person.

same as above, but now with more goodies. Haven't gotten a chance to use it since it has basically snowed every weekend since I have had them in, which means I'm skiing instead!

I Definitely have invested a bunch, but it’s been over years. Think about hotel costs, I had no issue in spending a few hundred on a ground tent and heavy duty cots.

I don’t either, my point was if you look at what you might spend on hotel stay, it’s spend hundreds on camping gear. Sorry for the confusion.

I was just kidding..I’m on a sleeping bag in the box budget. If I could afford it,I’d lift my truck, lock it and put one of those cool pop up camper canopys on it.I know more than a few people with roof top tents and mould seems to be a really big problem with them here in BC.

At this point, I’m LLBean tenting on Cabelas cots. Some day I’ll have a better set up, but till then the money goes elsewhere.

I've been a backpack camper for about 15 years so I've always leaned towards the small, lightweight side of things. This was my favorite backpack setup. A 1+ pup tent with a self-inflating mattress.

When my wife and I first started dating a few years ago, our first camp trip was with a tiny Eureka APEX 2xt on a twin air mattress, a smokey Joe grill for cooking, and a little 12-pack cooler for drinks & food. After all of my years of backpacking I was hooked on the convenience of car camping but we knew we needed some upgrades. We bought a larger Coleman tent, basic campsite gear like lantern, stove, table, etc. Camped in style:

But the more we camped, the more we realized we needed to streamline a bit. So we've gotten ourselves off the ground, into a RTT and we scaled back a bit on the campsite. Now our gear mainly consists of bedding, cooler, stove & food. RTT's keep you a bit more mobile than ground camping so we keep things simple now. Most food prep and cooking is on the tailgate instead of tables and we've organized our gear to a container-by-container basis as needed.
