This is caused by the needle bearings in the front end. When lifted a verticle misalignment is created at the left axle where it enters the needle bearing and sets up a vibration due to the slop of the factory bearings.. ECGS has a replacement kit to fix it.

So I'm getting the impression that the 888/ome clunk is disappearing? Really can't decide on ome or 5100.

Monotube vs twin tube. That's all there is to it.

Not really. There were major reports of clunking coming from ome struts in the past. If this hasn't been resolved then it's a no brainer to get the bilstein struts no matter what other differences remain especially when the 5100 have more travel as well.

Assuming you have read about what causes the clunk I'd say my statement still stands. It's just a safety weld.

Here are some pics. Full specs:

    5100s all around
OME 888 front coils (struts/coils pre-assembled at zero setting)
OME Dakar Leaf pack (light duty)
    1.25" Spidertrax wheel spacers
    OEM TRD Pro 4Runner Wheels
    BGF KO2s 285/75/17

    Extras:
    Carrier Bearing Drop
    Diff Drop
    Extended Brake Lines
Cab Mount Chop (plates from BAMF)

I knew I'd have to do a CMC with KO2s based on other threads on TW-- after the chop, I am still rubbing on the plastic in reverse, and need to shave it back but I just haven't gotten around to it yet. KO2's have a lot of tread close to the sidewall-- other brands' 285s likely wouldn't rub as much. I also likely would not have rubbing issues if I took off the spacers.

Overall, the ride is solid. Stiffer than stock, rides more like a truck, but handles bumps much better.

As for wheels--if I could do it again, I'd get FN wheels (wider than OEM, which are 7") because I'm technically out of spec on the wheels/tires (wheels too narrow), though many people still run this combination.

Lift was 1600 (headstrong offroad - highly recommend)
    Wheels were 800
    Tires were 1000
Install, mount balance and alignment was 750 (I'd do it myself but the truck is very much under warranty, and I wanted someone very experienced to do this for peace of mind)

Marie at Headstrong told me the "speed bump clunk" is a still a thing for third gen OME struts, which is why i went with 5100. I live in Louisiana, and we have HORRIBLE roads. I also HATE suspension noises, they drive me insane. So OME struts were easily a no go for me. Others seem to like them a lot though

Post when you have the pics! This is the exact setup I'm looking at, but haven't bit the bullet yet. Pictures would help solidify the purchase!

I want a 3 inch lift with my bilstein lift kit and the 2888 coils say that they add 2.75 inches of lift. Can I get higher than that by adjusting the 5100s to a slightly higher setting?

It's not a good idea to go 888s on 5100's at any higher setting than 0. The CV angles are about as far from stock as they can go at 2.75". Some say the angles are even too far, and there are likely good reasons why most performance coilovers aren't designed to lift 3".

I thought the same thing-- really wanted as close to 3" as possible. But 2.75" is plenty of lift-- with 285s, the lift completely transforms the truck, and its TALL. I ride taller than most stock full size trucks. You won't be disappointed with the height

Still so torn on which coils 5100 and 888 or 6112. I drive on a lot of bumpy back roads how well do the 5100 soak them up?

Decently, but they certainly don't do it wonderfully like an F-150 Raptor or a Taco on a set of really nice performance coil overs. I live in Louisiana and we have some shit roads here-- I mean some of the worst in the country. They perform far better than stock when going fast down a two lane bumpy asphalt road, hitting speed bumps, going over curbs, and hitting potholes, but overall the ride is much stiffer. So again, you'll feel the small bumps in the road more than you would with stock, but it takes bigger hits much better than stock (this may have as much to do with longer travel as it does with better shocks). I think you'd get a better ride with the 6112, but you can lift/clear higher with 5100s.

No, had I not been adding the weight of the winch bumper I wouldn't have added it. The only thing I'd double check on it whether the 5100's will handle the height/travel necessary to run the 888 springs as they are the tallest springs OME currently manufactures. You will of course definitely want new UCA's. My wheels have -12 offset and I haven't had any rubbing or trimming necessary

Full OME Suspension w/ 888s and Dakars
Just installed my full OME suspension with 888s and Dakar leaf springs(trim packer added to drivers side, still have stock UCAs). The truck rides fantastic! It's not rough, it feels better than stock and seems to corner really nice. Tires and rims go on tomorrow, so we'll see what that does. Honestly, not quite as much lift as I was thinking I would get with 888s, but I think it looks great. I thought the 888s might have been a little too much lift, but I'm really happy I chose them over the 887s. IMG_1125.jpg IMG_1126.jpg
